More Clear Channel Censorship On The Way...Tom Joyner??
Looks like another friend of Democrats could be next in line for the Clear Channel Thought Police...

http://www.urbaninsite.com/asp/news.asp

TJMS draws FCC complaint for racially offensive jokes.

Cincinnati activist Nathaniel Livingston Jr. filed a complaint with the FCC and has written to Clear Channel regarding a comedy routine on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Livingston tells Urban Insite, "Today <2/26>, I wrote to Clear Channel (and filed a complaint with the FCC) asking them to investigate this morning's nationally syndicated 'Tom Joyner Morning Show' wherein comedian J. Anthony Brown did a 'comedy routine' mocking slavery and calling African Americans 'coons' and 'jiggaboos'."

"If Howard Stern can't let a caller say 'nigger,' how can Joyner let a paid member of his staff use such offensive language? To my knowledge Clear Channel has taken no action against Mr. Joyner." Livingston quoted these "jokes" he said he heard on the show:

"What do you call a slave with a white woman? Kobe."

Yesterday, you correctly yanked the Howard Stern Show off Clear Channel stations, and earlier today you testified before Congress that you were embarrassed by Clear Channel's programming. If you are sincere about enforcing your company's Responsible Broadcasting
Initiative then you must immediately review this morning's comedy skit and take appropriate action against Tom Joyner.

This letter and a separate complaint are being filed with the FCC. Nathaniel Livingston, Jr.

<snip>

Howard Stern mentioned how hypocritical Clear Channel is for "suspending" his show while down the dial on another Clear Channel station some rapper's using that word and worse. Someone else posted the sexploitive and downright juvenile webpages of several Clear Channel stations and so on.

But this isn't about taste or the broadcasting of offensive material. This is outright muscle flexing from a large corporation to prop up a political regime that they've bought and paid for and now are attempting to protect their investment.

1. this seems to target a major program working to get blacks to register and
vote

language issue: I have been told that some language is ok within the group but not when used by outsiders. Tom Joyner is a black program for blacks. I'm white, and I know no other white who even knows who Joyner is.

my question: is the letter writer black or white? if white, I would suspect it's the opening gun in a campaign to get this major show off the air.

I have the impression that the show is a MAJOR black info group that mostly 'flies under the radar' of whites.

2. I KNOW
...who Joyner is...I listen to him every morning...to assume that whites don't know who he is is taking an awfully big leap. (I am btw melanin deprived!:)

3. Nathaniel Livingston Jr.
If I remember correctly he is black. He has a bit of a bone to pick with clear channel. I moved away from Cincinnati years ago, but I still listen to 700WLW because they broadcast Red's games, and Nate Livingston's name comes up occassionally. I think the last think I heard from him was when he was protesting the overweight man who was killed when police tried to arrest him in from of a taco bell.

4. It's a very popular morning show
in Washington, D.C. and yes the audience is mainly black but not exclusively so.

The idea that the Tom Joyner, who is a major player with many charity organizations, being banned for racist language is really laughable. I'd laugh if I wasn't crying.

Joyner is banned because he is a powerful Democratic voice and he knows some big players, including Bill Clinton.

The FCC is just clearing the last vestidges of the left-wing media before the election.

5. This Looks Sooo Set Up
How can people be so blantaly obvious with their true intentions?

After a little googling, it appears Mr. Livingston is another of the black Conservatives who have a bone to pick with the likes of a Mr. Joyner or a Tavis Smiley who have risen as major voices in black radio.

I'm very white and have listened to Mr. Joyner waaaaay back to his early days in Chicago radio in the 70's, and I've always respected his intelligence and grace. He's helped a lot of people; especially black broadcasters. He was a major force in making Urban radio a major broadcast format and has championed the good fight without question or fail.

Yes, it looks very much like this is a shot over black radio's bow to watch what they're doing. Joyner, like Stern, isn't a Clear Channel property, thus they can't shut him down completely.

One last thing, I wonder how many Clear Channel stations carry Mr. Savage's hatefest? Isn't the "N" word used on there as well as other racial slurs...of course, it's entertainment, right??? Where are the complaints on that front?

7. Ooohh Boy!
If they try to censure or get TJMS off the air, the FCC will have picked on the WRONG person. :D

He has way too much community support, even off the air for all of the good work he does.

I'm another occasional listener, also melanin-challenged. And I've never heard anything on the TJMS that was even remotely offensive.

9. To back up your point.....
.....a simple Google search for Tom Joyner gets you 72,000 hits!

I wasn't aware he was in the Radio Hall of Fame and he has an impressive Biography listed on topblacks.com and is known as "The Fly Jock" and "The Hardest Working Man in Radio"

More about his show here. http://www.tavistalks.com/CONTENT/Tom_Joyner_Show/

If he works for CC me thinks it would be a bad idea for them to fire him. :)
