That said, it certainly doesn't surprise me. The American people take our Constitution seriously. That's why frivolous things don't get very far. Things like the flag burning amendment and the constantly proposed balanced budget amendments are not embraced. This is another. On the whole, I think Americans are not as dumb as the Republicans think we are.

What gets me, though, is how many people don't realize that this is nothing but a Shrub smokescreen - he knew there was no way it would pass Congress, but had to find some way to deflect questions about the economy, his ANG service, WMD's, Halliburton, etc.
