Gas Prices Today
We got an 'Oilman' in the White House.

This morning on the way to to work (northern West Virginia) noticed that the price of regular at the cheapest station in town was $1.54 a gallon. I took off early and passed by that same station a little after noon. The price had risen to $1.74 a gallon. Twenty cents a gallon in 5 hours.

This is a sign of what Bush as done to our Economy and a demonstatation of his inability to deal with problems in the mid east that can not be ignored. Don't let your Republican friends try to explain this one away as out of the control of the pResident.

How bad has it got so far where you are?

1. The gas stations in this area
only accept gold bullion. Not yet, but I hope that gas prices continue to rise. People get pissy when the price is high and they may blame the Tex-ass.

2. If gas prices rise much more, it will hurt the economy...
gas prices have a significant impact on disposable consumer income... if they rise significantly, consumer spending will decrease, which will hurt the economy.

21. And if the effect of higher gas prices hurts the dollar even more...
...that will cause gas to become even MORE expensive.

The value of the dollar, the price of oil and the health of the economy have become a particularly vicious circle.

3. I posted this recently about Las Vegas:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=1147853#1148131

Here's an update: The Sinclair I'm speaking of is still $1.259 as of yesterday, BUT there are still a number of stations around the same area where the price of a gallon of regular unleaded is remaining under $2.00. What makes me wonder is WHY is there a range in prices of over 30 CENTS now, when before it rarely went more than a dime or so in one given area?

Are supplies really that far off kilter?

6. Plenty of crude, but no refining
Refinery utilization is at an all time low, and they are blaming it on routine annual maintainence - but if you go the the American Petroleum Institute and look at their numbers you'll see quickly that production is at an abnormally low level. This is price gouging and nothing less.

Mark my words, by the first of June there will not be a gallon of gas for sale in this country for less than two bucks.

4. we've above average (according to the news)
I paid 1.79 per gallon of regular yesterday. That's pretty high for this area.

everytime I hear about gas prices falling (petro and natural) I laugh! The price of gas will only continue to rise through my lifetime.

9. It's due to the dollar dropping
By the time that the dollar comes back up, China and India will probably be using so much more petroleum that it will remain expensive (likely more expensive than now).

14. So what do ### and - 30- stand for?
(I have resisted instant messaging and chat rooms--basically any communication over the internet other than e-mail. DU is my first experience outside of that shell, so I need a little extra help here.)

EOM == End of Message

The others are symbols indicating the end of an article. They are used mostly in the newspaper business -- or at least they used to be.

15. Here in Delaware...
How bad has it got so far where you are?

The price of a gallon went up by five cents overnight last night. This morning it's $1.64 a gallon where I always get it.

Hope it goes back down next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but I've less than a quarter tank at the moment. Guess I'll have to buy some of the stuff before next week. :-(

The Plan around here is to buy no more than $10. worth per car each week, no matter the price. If the price goes up, they just sell less to us.

I doubt it will stay that low for very long. Expect it will probably rise to around $2 at some point this spring or summer.

25. Where is the outrage? The media frenzy?
Can you imagine if a Dem were president and gas prices were doing this? It would be topic 1A--beating out gays, janet's boob, and all the other "important" stories.

26. I hate to complain
but two dollars a gallon of gas is a great price.

Gas is by far the cheapest liquid you can buy today. Two dollars a gallon translates to 50 cents a liter or so. It costs twice that for a bottle of Aquafina and more if you want a carbonated beverage.
