Why is Jesus's pain more important than any humans suffering?
I don't want to minimize the pain and suffering
of Jesus's crucification, but it seems to me that
human beings have suffered greatly throughout history.
Much of that pain was caused by aggressive torturers
and exploitation of people of all ages, sects, nationalities
and sexes. Murder, rape, torture and exploitation of
the innocent is riddled throughout history and the
now. I just don't see much use in the unnecessary
suffering of a man who could apparently perform
blessings through miracles for others and yet did
not choose to save himself.
Some are going to say that God needs the sacrifice
of innocent blood to atone for sins.....sorry but
if that kind of God needs suffering of his human
subjects for them to earn his love....I don't want it.

1. The idea is that the Crucifixion was meant to absolve us of sin and
therefore pain resulting from it.

Even as a Christian I do wonder why there is pain and suffering. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer. And I certainly will NOT say we suffer for the "glory of God". (Man, does THAT sentiment ever irk me. My God is not a sadistic narcissist!)

2. Partial explanantion
is that unlike many who suffer:

1) Jesus chose to suffer

2) He made that choice in order to help others (absolve them of their sins)

3) He was resurrected for making a sacrifice in order to help others

3. Who said it was?
The Crucifixion was God experiencing the suffering of man.

4. Jesus's pain and suffering was not the point of his life...
... no matter what Mel Gibson says.

All sorts of people were crucified. According to most Christians, including me, it is what he did in his life that makes him special, not so much the way he died.

6. The point of the crucifixion is not that the Jews did it
but that WE did it, humans.

And Jesus said, "If you do it to the least of these, you do it to me."

So we just don't get it as we crucify with depleted uranium and smart bombs thousands of "the least of these" today, we are STILL CRUCIFYING CHRIST.

Read the Beatitudes folks. It's all you need to know.

Love! That's all. Just LOVE! It truly is, "all you need."

7. Actually, Millions of People Died WORSE Death than Jesus!
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 02:36 PM by Torgo4
Many of those tortured to death over weeks and months were horrifically violated IN THE NAME of Jesus...by his self-appointed clergy here on earth.

According to Gospel, he was crucified at 0900 and died at noon! 3 hours is kinda short since many people took days to suffocate on a cross. Interestingly, crucifixion was seen as a humane step UP from the previous method--impalement!!

Think Christ's passion was the worst...picture being rectally impaled and dying slowly!

Worse still? Imagine that fate applied to a child...as did the Crusaders knights to Muslem babies before buring them!!!!

Well...my intellect just fell off a cliff of despair!!!!

Meanwhile, instead of ending such cruelties, or curing mankind of leprosy, Jesus wastes his cosmic power changing water into wine! That little parlor trick is supposed instill awe in me?
