Why Republicans get what they want
Can you imagine Karl Rove or Bush demanding that the religious right shut up and stop trying to get anti-choice, anti-woman or anti-gay bills passed because "they alienate voters"? Hell no.

But Democrats do it EVERY YEAR despite being on the right side of all those issues to women, gays, minorities, etc. That's why the Republicans win victories despite being a minority whilst support for Democrats erodes as a proportion of the voter base every year.

1. Bigotry and dehumanization
are the red meat of conservative cheerleading. What do you suggest liberals do?

2. ummm, don't you think...
coming out in ardent opposition to those things would be a good place for an opposition party to start?

3. The reason the Republicans get what they want.
Republicans only get what they want when the Democrats don't step up and oppose this. This has unfortunately happened a lot during the last three years. Another thing is that they know how to circumvent the rules.

4. Nonsense!
"Republicans only get what they want when the Democrats don't step up and oppose this."

Excuse me for saying this, but what utter nonsense!

We could have several judges -- in lifetime appointments -- but for the courageous opposition of several Democratic Senators.

We could have limits of the amounts of lawsuits against doctors, but for the efforts of severla Democratic Senators.

You prefer to look at how bad things are. Fine. But I'll look at how bad things could be, with the White House and both houses of the Congress in the hands of the Republican Party.

And, instead of dissing the efforts of some in our Party, to do the best they can to limit the damage inflicted upon our society by the Republicans, I'll thank them for what they have been able to do.

7. Repugs are unified, that's why!
They have a very simple, uniform (but ignorant) philosophy. That makes for unity and cohesion. The Democrats have a very difficult time splitting Repug support. Rarely, if ever, do blocs break ranks.
And more importantly, hate is a lot easier to sell in America than tolerance.

The Democrats are far less philosophically linked. That makes it easy for the Repubs to slice off big chunks using wedge issues. Again intolerance sells.

There are many so-called Reagan Democrats, but good luck finding any Clinton Republicans.
