Poll question: Should I have started yet another thread against/for religion?
Do you think that this thread is gratuitous? Did I really need to start another thread about religion? Should I start more?

3. No more please
I am posting this here so that I do not have to start yet another post.

I come here for politics. Like minded, intelligent discussion of issues, policies and the Presidential election. While everyone has a right to their own opinion on a variety of issues I do not understand the politicization of religion on this board.

I have been proudly calling myself a liberal democrat for more than 30 years. I was raised a catholic but am a waffling agnostic at best today. I think every human being is absolutely entitled to his or her own personal religious beliefs without persecution by any other. I thought tolerance of this individual right was a fundamental principal, not just of my nation but my chosen political party.

When I have heard the right-wing puppets like Sean Hannity spew their lies about the Democrat’s hating religion, specifically hating all things Christian, I believed it to be propaganda. I still believe that, although many postings on this board could convince one that they may have a point. That is a little sad to me.

I admire people with deep religious conviction, no matter how their beliefs – religious or political, differ from mine. While they don’t get a free pass on the political side, they get my respect when they practice what they preach. The fact that some of them may not return that respect is as much their right as the right to practice their religion.

I personally have no intention on seeing Mel Gibson’s new movie, but I defend his right to produce it. I choose not to see it simply because I don’t want to.

So I guess I just want to know what’s the issue and what’s it got to do with the being a Democrat?
