Maybe before Bush changes the constitution, he should actually
read it.

I just read this in an essay on commondreams..another good sound bite that I am sending my local rag paper.

Put away the Hungry Caterpillar George and pick up the constitution..maybe Senator Byrd can get you a copy...

2. I doubt he's ever read it
I wish someone would ask him about .

Make him give some details about it .

I've said this before if I could ask him
any question , that this is what I'd ask .

10. Ted Kennedy said earlier in the week, Bush is the first president
to try to add discrimination into the constitution. I thought that was a fantastik line.

Bush can't change the constitution, congress can. This is obvious playing to his audience but if it works up the masses against him then that's ok by me.

4. saw a tally a while ago
of the number of proposals to amend the constitution in recent years. this covered the reagun years. it was amazing to see how often the "conservatives" wanted to change it, and for some pretty freaklin trivial shit, too.

about liberal activist judges re-writing the Constitution?

7. Hypocrites .
Just like everything else in society today. Let the conservatives do what they want and the liberals are evil if they try.

I hope you are right, but with the Patriot Act, I am less confident.

Oh, Congress.

19. It's a scary possibility, huh?
But very realistic, IMO.

Think about it. What if we had another 911? Would Bush declare martial law? Suspend elections? Transfer all authority to executive branch? It's happened before in Deutschland.

20. Yes, but...
It is entirely possible you could be right. Though Bush has tried to convince us that we are better off for all of our wars after the single biggest security failure happened under his watch. I think people would be very pissed at him if we have a second huge one now, under his watch once again. I don't think people would stand for it.

21. Yes.
I don't think even he could squeeze out of that one.

NOT THAT I WOULD EVER WANT IT TO HAPPEN, MR. ASHCROFT.

Just figured I'd better make that clear to the Gestapo.

24. It's not meant to pass, just be a diversion.
Keeps the faithful from noticing the 9/11 commission changes and from noticing that SS is in trouble, really, not just a partisan view of SS.

16. I wouldn't worry too much
I believe amending the constitution not only requires 2/3 of congress, 3/4 of the states, but ALSO 2/3 of the Senate.

If that is the case I doubt this amendment will go anywhere.

22. Not going anywhere
That's what it's there for-- Bush endorsing the amendment is just political chow for his yapping ultra-right base. It would never pass but W gets to be a "hero" to the radicals.
