Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 11:40 AM by sirjwtheblack
What do you think should be our emphasis heading into the War on Bush?

Edit: Please tell me what your "other" vote is

1. I put economy, but
That is often misinterpreted by the media as "I want someone to boost the GDP numbers and get unmployment down" That's very nice in the short run, but I want massive economic reform, restoration of the top tax rate to 70%, a ban on offshoring and overseas outcourcing, reaffirmation of right to organize for labor, cancellation of NAFTA & FTAA and a massive publics works effort to get Americans to work and stimulate the economy.

Piddly short-term stimulus is not the answer.

3. "Economy" - i.e., Jobs - i.e., getting out of WTO and Nafta
"a massive publics works effort to get Americans to work and stimulate the economy"

The only sensible policy, of course, that has been proven to raise living standards time and time again...

2. For me, personally, Education
I'm a college student who has been forced to go part-time for two semesters and now am sitting out for a semester. Pell grants and student loans needed to be raised, yet were cut. Tuition has gone up in record amounts. I'm a better student than W. ever was, yet being a poor Indian from a reservation my daddy doesn't pay my way for anything. Now, I'm in jeopardy of not finishing my degree for awhile.

Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 11:48 AM by truthspeaker
By which I mean getting our troops the hell out of Iraq and putting them back to work going after al Qaeda and protecting the United States, and also repairing the extensive damage to our reputation abroad done by the Shrub gang.

9. Irresponsibility as a whole
but espicially concerning fiscal policy. I don't have the right to vote right now, yet I am in effect being taxed because with the debt as it is, in twenty years I'll be paying for today's programs.

If we can kick that prop out, the entire rotten house of Neocon/Bushco will topple into the bottom level of hell, where they belongs. Then we can rebuild the country.

12. Democracy
If we don't deal with GOP voting fraud, the takeover of our governments by corporations and the wealthy, the assault on the Bill of Rights by the right, the takover of the media by the right wing because of the demise of the Fairness Doctrine, the incipient installation of the Bush Family dynasty, etc. etc. etc. none of the other issues matters.

I feel like democracy is hanging by a thread and I am terrified.

14. Getting rid of fear/anger/hate driven political forces - the root problem
This administration is powered by fear/anger/hate. They used 9-11 to scare the country down the wrong path.

It's the reason we act belligerently toward other countries.
It's the reason why people are willing to accept attacks on their freedom like the patriot act.
It may be part of the reason the economy sucks.
It's the reason people don't criticize the government like they normally would.
It's the reason the rally around the leader and don't ask questions.

The man is say "be scared, hunker down, don't ask questions, keep your head down, work, consume or else...."

You can only keep people in a state of panic so long.

I would be proud of a leader who, would point this out and not try to capitalize on fear.

15. The illegal War
in Iraq. Resources used to launch a pre-emptive attack to satisfy the Bushie's personal vendetta and to line the deep pockets of the administration's corporate backers and friends. Asking the American people to sacrifice the lives of our sons and daughters on a fraudulent premise. The economy is important, as are the so many other issues. But this war, the continued loss of lives both American and Iraqi is foremost in my mind.
