Sec'y of State Colon Bowel, is this a joke?!!
"Suggesting that Haiti has become plagued by corruption, inefficiency and cronyism, Secretary of State Colin Powell is questioning whether President Jean-Bertrand Aristide should remain on as Haiti's leader."

What?! And yet the gov't we have HERE gets to stay in place.

1. Aristide should make this observation
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 11:25 AM by bif
It'd be pretty funny. Although I suspect he thinks we're inclined to help him stay in power.

2. The choice should be the people's!
American imperialism should not be taking affect in Haiti...I believe some of the things Aristide has done are dead wrong...and if the people of Haiti(not the people of the US) want him out he should go...an international coalition needs to get in there and estabilish a democratic election system so things dont get out of hand...

...but the point is, if the majority of Haitians want him out, he should be a goner, IMO

5. I believe some of the things Aristide has done are dead wrong...
Maybe you could share some of those beliefs. What exactly has he done that you believe is dead wrong. The "people" of Haiti love Aristide and would vote to re-elect by a HUGE majority if it were constitutional to do so. He is only allowed to serve one term in a row and only has one year left on his term. He is the Democratically elected leader of Haiti. He was elected by over 70% of the vote. The same thugs that staged a coup in 1990 are at it again and they do not represent the majority of the people they represent the wealthy land barons. It is a matter of the wealthy feeling entitled to power because of their wealth on land ownership but they would never be elected by the people so they have to use violence to overthrow Democracy. If you think that is right then what hope does Democracy have?

9. No I can't explain France but what has that to do with Democracy?
Do you suggest because another country wants Democracy to be done away with and backs a political coup that it is the correct position. How do Democracies deal with the change of power? Is it by armed insurrection and thuggery or is it by the ballot box?

10. As one of the people...
I have to agree with Rocknation. Bush has got to go.

The person has spoken... make it so.
