Conservative co-worker just said...
A coworker of mine, who is always singing the praises of Reagan (i.e., how Reagan singlehandedly brought down the Soviet Union type of stuff...)

He was talking to another office of ours, and as he hung up the phone he said, "remember, vote Democrat!"

He is ripped at Bush over Social Security (he's in his mid 40s)

12. I wouldn't go that far...
We work in CT, which is a pretty likely a blue state... and, a conservative in CT is still probably more liberal than Zell Miller -

Our under-fire RepubliCON governor originally ran on a promise that, while he was personally pro-life, he would never propose any anti-abortion measures while governor.

3. The potential SS cuts may even sway my 59 year old uncle...
if he can cross over, we are now into HARDCORE conservatives.

4. That's so funny. Exactly WHAT did conservatives think the goal of
the GOP was if not to do away with social service programs??? It's what they've been shouting for for decades. Now they get it and they are pissed!

6. Ever see that episode of South Park...
...where the underpants gnomes teach the kids about running a corporation? Their presentation:

"Phase I: Collect underpants
Phase II: <collective shrug> ?????
Phase III: Make lots of money!"

That's basically what a lot of these conservatives do. They have no idea how or why cutting programs is a good thing, but they're sure that collecting underpants will make them lots of money. When they finally realize what's going on, they're not quite as keen on the plan.

7. I bet what they were counting on was...
cuts to FUTURE social services, but NOT to social services destined for THEM. It is after all the right wing motto - I've got mine, screw everyone else!

11. They were convinced that THEY would win the lottery and become rich.
They were convinced that THEY would win the lottery and become rich.
As people get older, they recognize that they have a lot less time
to win the lottery, and they sure aren't going to become rich with
an ordinary salaried or hourly job reported on a W-2 form.

14. They are just that stupid, frankly.
Reagan said he could cut taxes, raise defense spending, and balance the budget. It was a stupid, ridiculous idea, but voters were stupid enough to believe him. He cut taxes, raised spending, and (as any sane person would've guessed) the deficit exploded.

It took a decade and two major tax increases to finally end the deficits.

Many if not most Republicans are sniveling greedy little assholes. They consider anyone who receives govt money to be undeserving, except for themselves. They are the first to cheat on taxes, and the first to stand in line for handouts.

10. Hearing grumblings here in Indiana, too
Two cases here like what you've seen:

A good friend of mine is a career military officer, conservative Christian, and lifelong Republican. Over coffee recently, he told me that his conscience will NOT let him vote for Bush this time. he cited as his reasons the lies about WMD leading to 500 dead soldiers and a total fear of John Ashcroft.

My brother-in-law in a lifelong, country-club type Republican who was really geeked up about Bush back in 2000. Now, hes totally disgusted by the Open Borders initiative, Social Security, and Medicare. Of course, his biggest issue is the environment. My brother-in-law is an avid sportsman and is really pissed by Bush scrapping every piece of environmental legislation he can find.

God, I hope this becomes a national epidemic.

13. Being a Conservative is a lot like being an alcoholic...
Admitting there is a problem is the first step to recovery. Last year, my Ex-Freeper Brother-In-Law said to me that he had no idea that Bush would be this bad. He's become more and more liberal ever since!

16. update - he now says Bush has Osama
My conservative co-worker is now saying that Bush has Osama and is just waiting for the right time to announce the capture - says all the signs point to it (Middle East news reported it first, a la Saddam, US stepping up hunt in Afghanistan using tactics of how we caught Saddam...)
