Question for British DUers

Why doesn't the Labour party dump Blair? Is there a way they can force him out as party leader and PM without forcing new parliamentary elections?

1. Ask Gordon Brown

It seems to be in in his mind whether to try to challange Blair in the next leadership race.

I doubt he will be any better, really.

(And no, I'm not British, but I do get both ITV (from Newsworld International) and the BBC (on public TV and BBC America)!)

2. They can, but won't until Blair is an obvious liability.

He has won them two landslides after all.

Those two landslide elections were before the Iraq war. He went along with the Iraq war even though most Britains opposed it. Now it turns out Robin Cook was right and he was wrong, but he is still obstinately clinging to his Poodle status.

Blair's hold on the party is too strong

Blair has given the party two landslides for one thing and the party has given the leadership a lot of power which means that the party has become little more than a Tony Blair fan club. The leadership of the party brooks NO dissent and the party's MP's are for the most part Blairite androids who would vote for the execution of the first born if Blair told them to.

Why has all this come to pass? After 18 years in opposition the party wanted power at any cost and Blair gave them that. The downside has been that the Labour party has lost its purpose, principles and its soul in the proccess.
