chris matthews and bush and springsteen
hey all, they did another one with kerry showing him in youth on up to vietnam and talking before congress so eloquent and riding his motorcycle, with the back ground music

For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield)

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

1. Thanks
Do you think that the gay marriage amendment pushed some of these guys over the edge away from Bush?

2. I thought so too
There was a whole thread bashing Hardball tonight saying the questions weren't strong enough and Matthews and Kerrey were cheerleading for Bush. I watched the same show and didn't see it that way at all. I thought that little musical thing about John Kerry was really cool. Just shows that we can all watch the same thing and come to different conclusions. And -- that's okay! But I was glad to see this post as I agree about tonight.

3. Uh, the choice of music is definitely "editorial"

Flame away but Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is more appropriate to Kerry if you look at his VN/AntiWar past but, most think of it as a happy anthem---hell Reagan's people did and Springsteen called them on it as well as for even using it.

Frankly, most hearing the two songs with the montages will think:
Born in the USA---patriotic, uplifting = boost for Bush
Buffalo Sprfld---hippies, protest = crazy lefty democrat

(Oh, two things: 1. I do things like this for a living so actually my opinion on this *is* better than most (and its how I would frame it if I were plumping for Bush*)
2. I'm going to bed now, not dodging any critics to this post.

night all

on edit: yes, I *do* know the real meaning of each song. I'm talking about Ma and Pa Suburbanite.

6. Springsteen wrote "Born in the USA"
And wellstone_democrat is right -- it's not a "happy" song. But most people don't hear it that way...

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up

CHORUS

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

CHORUS

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son you don't understand"

(There's more, but you get the idea...)
