"We could see President Bush giving his acceptance speech at Ground Zero"
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 09:43 PM by scottxyz
“Or, and this is a real possibility, we could see President Bush giving his acceptance speech at Ground Zero,” {the source, a veteran official of past GOP conventions,} added. “It’s clearly a venue they’re considering.”

No, they're not trying to politicize September 11th AT ALL.

1. That would be an absolutely great day for an enormous demonstration
hundreds of thousands of people. Just like before the war. It can be done. There's hundreds of thousands of people that would do it. It just needs to be organized. Maybe moveon.org can get it started.

The big movement to shutdown the convention probably won't overlook that.

3. Given that the families of 9/11 victims
have promised to demonstrate at the Republican convention if the commission's time is not extended, it might be amusing (not the right word, but I can't think of a better one) to see him try and give his speech there.

5. With the extra 5,000 US soldiers being called in by the GOP
...(in violation of the Posse Comitatus act) it might be hard to get any real protests going or meaningfully covered in NYC.

43. Tienanmen square syndrome.
if you read the histories of Tienanmen square, you see that the CCP leadership called in troops from outside Beijing to start the shooting, knowing that locals would never fire on their neighbors. Look for the GOP to bring in national guard troops from outside new york to provide security.

9. The ghost of John O'Neill could haunt Bush
O'Neill was our top expert on Osama Bin Laden

O'Neill resigned before 9/11 because the White House kept telling him to back off on his investigations in Bin Laden

He took a job in private security in the World Trade Center - and died in the attacks.

10. This could turn into another "Top Gun" moment that Bush ends up regretting
His prancing around in a fly boy uniform came back and bit him in the ass when all the information about his time AWOL surfaced.

(We know he was grounded for skipping a mandatory physical which included a drug test. We theorize he was doing a lot of drinking and snorting in those days. Larry Flynt also claims to have evidence, which he will release this summer, showing that Bush paid for his 15-year-old girlfriend's abortion around that time. Ah - remember the good old issues back before we got onto the gay marriage thing!)

Prancing around on the final resting place of 3,000 peole who were killed - possibly due his own negligence or even complicity, we're having a hard time finding out because he's stonewalling the investigation into this - that's something else that could come back and bite him in the ass one day.

= = =

As a minimum, I propose people at Bush's party coronation in NYC hand out the following very concise and reasonable article by a former Member of Pariliament showing how Bush sat on his hands up to and during 9/11:

Oh please let that not just be a sleazy rumor with no proof. I want nice reliable witnesses, I want pictures, I want them to stay out of small planes. I may have to look into the possibility of the existance of a higher power if that all proves out....

28. Wow! Thanks for this scott....
I can't believe I missed this article. It is one of the best ever....

<All of this makes it all the more astonishing - on the war on terrorism perspective - that there was such slow reaction on September 11 itself. The first hijacking was suspected at not later than 8.20am, and the last hijacked aircraft crashed in Pennsylvania at 10.06am. Not a single fighter plane was scrambled to investigate from the US Andrews airforce base, just 10 miles from Washington DC, until after the third plane had hit the Pentagon at 9.38 am. Why not? There were standard FAA intercept procedures for hijacked aircraft before 9/11. Between September 2000 and June 2001 the US military launched fighter aircraft on 67 occasions to chase suspicious aircraft (AP, August 13 2002). It is a US legal requirement that once an aircraft has moved significantly off its flight plan, fighter planes are sent up to investigate.

Was this inaction simply the result of key people disregarding, or being ignorant of, the evidence? Or could US air security operations have been deliberately stood down on September 11? If so, why, and on whose authority? The former US federal crimes prosecutor, John Loftus, has said: "The information provided by European intelligence services prior to 9/11 was so extensive that it is no longer possible for either the CIA or FBI to assert a defence of incompetence."

Nor is the US response after 9/11 any better. No serious attempt has ever been made to catch Bin Laden. In late September and early October 2001, leaders of Pakistan's two Islamist parties negotiated Bin Laden's extradition to Pakistan to stand trial for 9/11. However, a US official said, significantly, that "casting our objectives too narrowly" risked "a premature collapse of the international effort if by some lucky chance Mr Bin Laden was captured". The US chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, General Myers, went so far as to say that "the goal has never been to get Bin Laden" (AP, April 5 2002). The whistleblowing FBI agent Robert Wright told ABC News (December 19 2002) that FBI headquarters wanted no arrests. And in November 2001 the US airforce complained it had had al-Qaida and Taliban leaders in its sights as many as 10 times over the previous six weeks, but had been unable to attack because they did not receive permission quickly enough (Time Magazine, May 13 2002). None of this assembled evidence, all of which comes from sources already in the public domain, is compatible with the idea of a real, determined war on terrorism>

13. There's a book coming out by a guy who gave Bush his
intelligence briefings up to August, 2001. It's going to make the Price of Loyalty look like Hannity's "Let Freedom Ring".

I really doubt they'll be able to have Bush speak at ground zero after that book comes out.

19. really? When?!?
That's the best news I've heard all day. I have been fuming about Hastert's refusal to grant *Bush's* request to extend the 9/11 commission, coupled with Bush's refusal to speak to the whole commission, and demand that his questions be limited to one hour. It is unbelievable that despite this he would be shameless enough to stand on the graves and capitalize on the suffering of those who died so that he could push through his tax cuts, gut the EPA, go to war, and give Halliburton 1 billion dollars. What a villainous bunch.

...because the families of the victims of 9/11 are angry at him because he refuses to reveal the truth and keeps on stonewalling that they too would participate. And who is stupid enough (not even Bush) to have the police attack demonstrators carrying placards saying "familes of 9/11 victims"?
Oh please let him do it.

22. This is repulsive. I live in Manhattan, and that smirking s.o.b. didn't
show up for his photo-op until 4 days after 9/11. For decades the repugs have waged war on NYC, and now they'll come here to hold their fucking convention. I've been joking with people that bush* will probably give his speech on top of 3,000 dead bodies...they're actually considering it? It's goddam surreal.

There's going to be at least a half million US citizens you'll have to get through to do so.

You stood on the smouldering remains of 2700 American citizens for your photo-op on 9/14/01. Just think... if you actually LISTENED to the Aug. 7th briefing, those 2700 people MIGHT still be alive!
