With Mike Malloy off the air - what else is out there??
I'm afraid that the answer is -- not much.

I tuned almost every night to Mike Malloy at this time (6-9 pm PST).

Is this time frame just a void now, as far as some truthful radio/internet talk?

1. Totally agree. Mike Malloy has been very therapeutic for
me. I would tune in almost every night and it was just great to hear someone else be so damn angry about the state of this country. Mike has many loyal listeners. Surely, someone would want to sign him up.

3. I miss him too. I only found his station in June of this year, and
I wish the democratic party would support liberal radio the way the pigs support radical conservative talk.

4. yeah, it's more than kind of depressing
Mike Malloy off the air.

And, they are pulling Howard Stern, too, at least on the Clear Channel stations. It's not exactly the same thing as Malloy to me - not even close.

But, the powers that be continue to rid the airwaves of people they don't like, while drug addicts, felons and law breakers that they do like are permitted to remain on right-wing fascist radio.

5. Mike Malloy is a great radio talk show host...
I signed the petition to have Air America hire him as a host.

Many thanks to the United Auto Workers for funding the i.e. America Radio Network. Although short-lived like the Wobbly's of the early twentieth century, the i.e. America Radio Network in airing the Mike Malloy program performed one of the most patriotic acts any organization could do....bring deomcracy to the airwaves.

6. There are other alternatives ...
On http://www.kgoam810.com/ you gene the Libertarian blow-hard Gene Burns from 7-10 PM PST, followed by the excellent Bernie Ward from 10-1AM, followed by the excellent Ray Taliafero from 1-5AM

8. they don't even come close, imo
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 11:08 PM by eablair3
Bernie Ward and Ray T don't come close to Mike Malloy or Peter Werbe. And, I have listened to more of Ward and Ray T as I can get them over the broadcast airwaves. I used to listen to them more regularly, but I can can only stomach so much hypocrisy that they spew out regularly. They are "anti-Bush", and that'a about all I can say for them. When push comes to shove, as the saying goes, Ward and Taliafero will go with the establishment, corporate line, even though at times they claim not to be that way. Ward will even vote for Republicans and yet asserts he's a liberal. He's a fake one at best. At the end of the day, they both are very pro-establishment. That's why they have their jobs on a large station like KGO. They are owned by Disney/ABC afterall. KGO won't hire any true progressives, like Malloy or Werbe, or any air personalities like KPFA/Pacifica Radio has on.

They are not a good alternative to Malloy, IMHO.

Plus, they aren't on from 6-9 pm PST.

and, Gene Burns, although a seemingly nice guy is pretty uninformed when it comes to politics and history. (And, Pete Wilson has got to be the most uninformed and naive person on that station -- nice to get a job because your mug has been reading the news on TV for so long, not because of merit in talk radio.) It's more than once that I have heard a caller just demolish Gene Burns. I still remember some younger guy/kid who called in by the name of "Roger" to Burns' show and just demolished him with facts, reasoning, and logic. If I was Burns I would have been embarrassed.

Burns ought to stick to reviewing restaurants and food like he does on Saturday mornings. imo. And, Ronn Owens (not his real name, iirc) is the worst, imo, just for his views. Karel on weekends isn't bad though, but his knowledge on things like prior U.S. foreign interventions and overthrows of governments and assassinations is apparently real limited, at least on the few occassions where the subject somehow got raised.

9. IE will be no more
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 10:58 PM by eleny
Hartman is continuing on his own. So, he isn't hooked up with IE. Malloy said that Thom has the financing to do that. Mike doesn't. But Mike also said he's in the very early stages of perhaps getting something together. No promises but something may be brewing.

11. I've listened to radioleft and it's pretty good, but ...
but they are not live from 6-9 pm PST or 9-12 pm EST time. There are several archive shows you can go listen to. Democracy Now, Flashpoints, Thom Hartmann and Randi Rhodes and the shows at White Rose can all be listened to, but I like live shows with very current topics much better. thanks, ... but there may not be any other choices but to listen to archives.

I think it would be a GREAT move by Pacifica Radio network to add in Malloy and/or Werbe to some kind of nightly talk radio shows broadcast over the Pacifica Radio network, which streams. Now, I'd contribute MUCH MORE to Pacifica if they would do that. I think the Pacifca Radio stations just primarily have alternative music on in the evenings and at night. If Pacifica Radio doesn't, I hope someone puts Malloy back on the air.
