Poll question: Favor constitutional amendment allowing foreign citizens to become pres?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 09:23 PM by truhavoc
This is in response to the amendment suggested by Orrin Hatch to expand the ability to become president to foreign born citizens who have been citizens for at least twenty years. Tell me what you think and why.

2. Basically, but don't you think this would be an issue....
That democrats and most liberals would support if it wasn't for the fact that Orrin Hatch instigated it, and it is most likely targeted at Arnold being a canididate in 2008 or 2012?

3. Just no
The founders put that in place for a reason. They didn't want someone from a foreign power being put in the White House to serve as a puppet.

5. Or to use it to build an empire, imo.
Or to legitimize an empire. We gripe about how the dems rolled over and let the repubs get out of control, but then we consider something like this?!?!?

6. You make an interesting point that I never thought of
Those founding fathers had it all figured out didn't they?

8. i voted no, but.......
..... not for the reasons the founding fathers had - i'm not particularly scared of foreign subversion....

Rather, it seems to me that since we've got a country of 300 million now, the idea that we can't find a servicable president out of that applicant pool is laughable - I think the burden lies with those who want foreigners to be president to show what great, wonderful benefit will result, that we aren't currently able to acheive...
