Fellini and the VAtican
In the mid 60's i believe it was, the italian director Fellini discovered a manuscript with a map showing the vatican in the 1700's, with a mud street separating it from a monastery. But, the manuscrpt also showed the tunnel which had been dug underneath it and the goings-on must have been quite gaudy.
When fellini tried to film the vatican and the govt fell on him like a ton of bricks so he never did make it.
shame

1. Yeah.
Shame on the Italian Government.

Restrictions on artistic creativity are always bad.

2. but Fellini made a bunch of other great movies anyway
I've been watching them again recently for the first time in years.
They seem to have gotten even better somehow.
I'm glad we have the ones he made!!!

He had constant disputes with the Vatican. Apparently though one of his close friends was a cardinal who at one time was in line to be Pope.
