Poll question: GLBT Folks! A question for you.
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 12:53 PM by Gringo
All other things being equal, if the GOP completely ebmraced gay rights and gay marriage, and separation of chuch and state, but kept their anti-new-deal, anti-union, pro-corporate core values, would you:

Just curious...

1. I'd stay a Democrat.
The Republicans favor the ultra wealthy and the corporate interests.

That says it all for me.

2. I added choices for straights.
The poll is aimed at gays, but hopefully this will help dampen the effects of straights who just want to vote in every poll...

3. why is this question posed only to gays?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 12:52 PM by noiretblu
would you suddenly support republicans...for any reason? and of course, they will not abandon their fundamentalist friends to fulfill this fantasy you pose.
on edit: i see you added choices for straights, but i don't think gay people are any more/less inclined to be "one-issue" voters than straight people.

5. I pose the question because
I have a number of gay friends, who generally vote democrat, but their thinking on most issues (other than gay rights) is incredibly conservative. So I just wonder if that is commonplace.

8. i don't think so...not more or less than any other group
factors e.g., race, gender, education, socio-economic status, religion and so on probably have a lot more to do with political ideology than who one sleeps with...

7. You make a good point about "one-issue" voters
But the question would still be valid even if it was posed to union workers or pro-choice activists.

Personally, even if the GOP shifted its position on all "social" issues to mirror the democrats, I would still NEVER vote GOP. I believe that regulation, gov't intervention and the New Deal programs all have an important role in IMPROVING our society.
