Petition to fire Ann Coulter
Open Letter to Human Events

Mr. Terence Jeffrey
Editor, Human Events
One Massachusetts Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20001
202-216-0600
Tjeffrey@humaneventsonline.com

Dear Mr. Jeffrey:

In my essay "War Heroes and Villains", I critique Ann Coulter’s latest escapade – her deplorable defamation of Vietnam war hero Max Cleland.

Sadly, she has a history of defaming the men who have fought for this country – she was fired from MSNBC in 1997 for telling a disabled Vietnam Vet "No wonder you guys lost."

Over the years, I and others have apprised you, personally, and Human Events, corporately, of Ann Coulter’s defamatory techniques.

Human Events employs its own Jayson Blair (a.k.a. Ann Coulter) whose record of making up facts is no less impressive: she said “ was not in the battle of Khe Sanh,” when in fact his Silver Star citation for bravery commended his courage in that very battle.

Honor requires that Human Events condemn its own Legal Affairs Correspondent, Ann Coulter, for the very behavior it condemns in others. Further, Human Events owes its readers an apology for Coulter’s weekly demonization of the Left. Most notably and most recently, Coulter defamed triple-amputee Max Cleland.

Will you and Human Events publish a retraction and apology for that defamation?

Will you hold Ann Coulter to the same standards to which you held Jayson Blair?

Will you emulate the journalistic integrity of the New York Times and publish a series of front page features retracting and correcting Coulter’s most egregious errors?

Your credibility – and that of Human Events – hangs in the balance.

Sincerely,

Daniel Borchers

1. Is this actually a petition or just an open letter?
If there's a petition out there, I'd sure like to sign it.

Terry

2. Good luck.
It's probably a waste of effort, but I will be interested in seeing their response.

4. I just can't get behind a movement of censorship........
She has every right to say what she says, and Daniel Borchers has every right not to read it.

11. Yes and Human Events has every right to not publish it
if what Coulter says is not based on facts. Firing Coulter for piss-poor journalism is not censorship- it's common sense. Ann can spout her drivel wherever she wants, she just shouldn't be paid to do it.

7. libel laws
If she is obviously smearing someones character based on falsehoods she can be sued for libel and defamation of character. I seem to rembember Carol Burnett doing just that and winning (the money went to charity) That is what we need to do to keep their stupid mouths shut.

9. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If coulter stops earning them money... shes fired in on second..

If coulter keeps people watching her every move and keeps earning money.. she goes on..

The letter only confirms that love her or hate her... people are reading her and the company will keep earning $$$$... irony is.. IMO... that letter helps her.. especially if 1000's jumped on board with you.

12. No...
She was fired in 1997 for maligning a disabled Vet. She can be fired again. And yes, she makes them money, but making the company stand behind her will make it obvious to everyone what whores they are.

Op-ed writers have to be held to some minimum journalistic standards. We've tried the, "Oh, they're just Republicans. What can you do?" approach, which has allowed them to lie with absolute impunity. It's time they're made accountable for their lies. If a company wants to protect their commodity, it's time they, at the very least, are harrassed a bit. (It made CBS pull the Reagans off the air, didn't it?)

13. interesting..
I dont know much about her.. except for she is the most annoying person i've ever seen.. I was following the typical line of reasoning that controversy leads to higher profits... It does make me wonder how much she was making in 97 versus today.
