Is anyone else tired of hearing about the "Passion" movie...?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 05:12 AM by imax2268
Sorry...I know it's the hot topic right now but I'm just so sick of the coverage and all the arguing on tv and on the street and such...

I went to see a different movie today and there were some sidewalk missionaires preaching against this movie...it was quite annoying to hear them squealing...not that I'm against their beliefs...but I wasn't even going to see that movie and they were giving me lip service...

Like usual though...all the attention will bring Mel gazillions of dollars...

Sorry...hope I'm not offending anyone but I'm just tired of hearing about it...

1. Sick to death of it
I remember when I was a kid our church (Lutheran) would give out tickets to movies too, movies like The Ten Commandments, The Story of Ruth etc., it was no big deal. Of course that was before RWing fundies started using everything to further their cause. I am sick of the "news" giving free publicity and promotion to stuff like this.

2. I am.
I really think the "controversy" is about 90% marketing.

I like Mel Gibson's work, and I expect to see this flick when I get the opportunity, but really. It's only a movie.

"I really think the "controversy" is about 90% marketing."

I'm turned off by the whole thing. When it comes out on cable, I'll probably watch it.

Edit: added quotation marks

12. you are on the money, CatAtomic
Did you see the CBS Evening News last night? The story was about how Mel Gibson has maneuvered the publicity by chosen the goriest moments to release for film clips and also how he has "only" granted a few interviews. This is the "less is more" theory of PR and the media whores fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

I couldn't stand heraing any of it and just called a media blackout. After all, there are plenty of tapes to catch up on and lots of music I've not heard in awhile.

5. Enough is enough.
With all that is going on in our world, why are broadcasters treating the release of this movie as news? I could understand a mention of it on shows like Entertainment Tonight, but why mingle discussions of a movie in with reports about soldiers getting killed in Iraq?

It`s yet another example of our hoopla priorities. Why discuss the plight of thousands of homeless children when you can discuss evening wear at the Oscars?

6. seriously...
I saw two fools going after each other on CNN about it...I said to myself..."THAT'S IT"...anytime something about that comes on I am switching the channel...

I wish they would stick to real news and leave the movie gossip to Entertainment tonight...

8. Religion and hiding something the White House is doing.
Lots of noise and distraction from what is really important.

9. Absolutely
It's a controversial movie. Big deal. Do we really need to hear about it a billion times? Does it really need to be the top story on the evening news? I don't think so.

And I'm sick and tired of hearing the same right-wing hypocrites who freaked out about Janet's nipple now urging everyone to take their kids to see Gibson's two-hour bloodbath.

10. You don't BEGIN to know how tired I am of it!
I didn't like Mel Gibson to begin with. And after all the threads we've had to wade through.... :eyes:

11. Ill wait for the video or DVD
...sounds like another Last Tempation of Christ.

When the hoopla dies down and it comes out on vid or dvd I'll see it and come to my own conclusions about the movie. Right now theres just too much bafflegab floating around on it.

13. 'Tis very easy to flip the channel or to skip over a thread
I have no real desire to see this movie. All through there has been many movies that I've enjoyed Mel Gibson. I'm not sure I'd enjoy this film, from what I've read.

One of my local rag stations actually had a talking head say "cashing in on Jesus Christ, next at eleven".

16. Maybe it's important
Maybe it needs to be talked about. I think its a good idea to try to head off what may be a disaster before it happens rather than sitting back after the fact and asking why no one did anything about it. If I am wrong then I wasted some time. No big deal. Sure do wish there were some that stood up and made a fuss about other issues that made a difference.

18. Immensely sick of it! I try to be tolerant of this stuff, because I know
it is important to some people, but enough already. Pilgrimages to movies about bible stories! What's next for regressive America?

19. The sidewalk missionaries were speaking Against the movie?
That's kind of interesting. I'd think they were hectoring people to watch the movie.

I wish the whole thing would go away, yes, but not because I'm just tired of hearing about the consarned thing, but because I'm very leery of the yet-to-be-seen consequences of the movie.
