anyone from florida??
What is to stop jeb from rigging the system again? You know the road blocks, the sudden construction sites near voting booths in democratic districts, the police pulling over every black driver they possibly can.

2. Us.
We have DU to report anything that happens as it happens -- except for those of us who may be stuck helping out as poll workers.

I thought there was some kind of central line set up for this kind of thing?

3. I hear the NAACP will have lawyers on-call throughout the state
as well as precinct observers. It's not like we can count on John Ashcroft to enforce the VRA.

4. How to Stop It
I'm glad the NAACP will be down, I live in a mostly Republican district, so I shouldn't have a problem.

Is there a way you can check your voter status before the election so if you've been "accidentally purged" you have a chance to straighten it out?

We could volunteer with the local Democratic party to help give people rides to the polls.

7. Do you live in Florida?
Call your county's Supervisor of Elections and they can look it up on the computer lickety split.

5. We have an active group that has formed up to support John
Kerry. Many of us are former local Clark Supporters. Don't worry at the Meetup tomorrow night we'll discuss this very issue. You can count on it. If we have to rent vans to drive people to the polls, then that's what we'll do. I also intend to contact the local Ministers in the African American churches and let them know that this option of transportation will be available. If I have to host people in my house that want to come down and work this campaign prior to November then that's exactly what I'm going to do. This is a hot-bed of GOP support here and we intend to take the battle right to them in their own backyard.

6. He doesn't need to use any of those old tricks again
He's got touch screen machines. They do the trick much more discretely.

9. Expect they'll have some new Jim Crow tactics
In the contested election of 2000

Ballots and their stubs had serial numbers. Poll workers recorded that serial number issued to the voter on the voter roll printout. In and of itself, this violates the Federal Constitution, which guarantees a secret vote. If Catherine Harris wanted to, each voter with a ballot in question could have been contacted to determine which candidate they intended to vote for. Instead, those in question were discounted as technicalities.

The presidential vote had six pages of candidates, with the instruction for each pair of pages: select one candidate for president/ vice president. To the less educated voters, this meant making one selection per pair of pages, which of course disqualified their vote. I've heard some rednecks in our town call it a ni##er IQ test. Supposedly a very large number of ballots like 100,000 were disqualified for this reason.

Since the 2002 midterm elections, most of the Florida voting precincts have switched to scanned forms where the voter fills in the bubble with a pencil. These forms also have serial numbers that are matched to the voter's name on the roll.

The real question is, with computers involved to tally the votes, how can the Cons be stopped from stealing another election?

12. I Live in Palm Beach County
Ms. LePore is up the election this year. Stick a fork in her cause she done. Congressman Wexler brought suit against her and the county to install printers on the voting machines. Local court dismissed the suit. So, it anyones guess as to the election. However, the folks in the Century Villages will not be voting for Pat this time. HA, HA that over 537 votes, hopefully little Tony will be duck hunting.
