You know what, Bush really IS a uniter.
I went over to Andrew Sullivan's blog to see if he had responded to my email to him (fat chance). He hasn't. But he is posting some of the email he gets, and I'll tell ya, it makes fascinating reading.
The 'email of the day' is from a Jewish Republican who, taking the FMA thing in conjunction with Laura Bush's apparent support for "The Passion," has decided that the Christian right influence on this administration is just a little too much for him right now, and will be voting Democratic in November. His take on it is that the Bush administration has basically decided that since bigotry is all they've got left that's working for them, they're just gonna bash everyone they can get away with bashing for the duration.
I always wanted a bumpersticker that said "United We Stand...Against Bush!" It's becoming a reality, folks. Soon, the only thing you can get most everyone in this country to agree on will be that Bush sucks and needs to be fired.
AS's blog is, of course, more likely to appeal to maverick Republicans, so the sample is skewed. But I figure he's not doing too well with the "NASCAR Dads" right now, either. Sure, they're probably all against gay marriage. But aren't they probably more concerned about, like, jobs?
I think basically what we're learning now is that Rove is a one-trick pony. His trick isn't working any more; but he keeps doing it because that's all he knows how to do. He has now pushed the politics of division so far that they have become the politics of union.
Yee ha,
The Plaid Adder
