KUGN to air left-tilting talk show

By Tim Christie
The Register-Guard

Ed Schultz isn't your stereotypical Volvo-driving, Chardonnay-sipping, Birkenstocks-with-socks-wearing liberal.

No, Ed Schultz is an ex-jock who drives a pickup truck, likes to shoot things and eats red meat. He's pro-military and anti-abortion. He's also a born-again progressive whose populist, sometimes bombastic talk radio show will go on the air in Eugene.

(snip)

"Conservatives do not have a lock on the market on how to do good radio and I'm going to prove that."

(snip)

Athans said his organization was attracted to Schultz because of his "killer ratings" in Fargo, where his voice reaches 72 counties in the Dakotas and Minnesota. "He was outperforming Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity."

(snip)

"He knows how to entertain and hold an audience," Athans said. "He's got a real common, everyday man touch. He is definitely a guy from the heartland."

ON THE AIR

The Ed Schultz Show can be heard:

• In Eugene-Springfield from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. weeknights on KUGN, 590 AM

• On XM satellite radio, channel 166, weekdays at noon.

• On the Internet at www.bigeddieradio.com
