When was the last time it was good to see a Republican win?

I don't mean just okay I mean really good. For me, I will say 1904, with Teddy Roosevelt.

Though I do think Eisenhower was an okay guy too, though not as good as Teddy.

1868 and 1872 the Democrats ran very white supremacist campaigns, as far as I know. Grant and the Republicans at least made some effort to give civil rights to blacks (at least in the south).

Come 1876, the GOP sold out southern blacks and it's been downhill ever since.

Yes, I know he was an asshole but at least he was in charge of his administration and called the shots.

All the repubs since have been nothing more than puppets and front men for wealthy special interest groups.

11. But Humphrey would have been as good or better a president without

being an asshole....Humphrey is probably one of the most underrated politicians of the 20th century. He was an extremely competent administrator, tough on corruption, very strong on civil rights and civil liberties, a friend of the working man and woman, and just an overall good government guy. Nixon couldn't hold a candle to him for overall character and leadership qualities. (I didn't know this in 1968 - I wanted Nixon to win, mostly because of Johnson and Vietnam - but fortunately I was too young to vote. By the time I could vote I had wised up and so cast my first vote for McGovern in 1972)

I forget who TR ran against so I will reserve judgement on him. He wasn't all peaches and cream though. Didn't he basically steal Panama from Colombia to build a canal?

Eisenhauer allowed himself to be a tool of the Republicans, let Joe McCarthy go on way too long, and he bestowed Nixon on us.
