I just seen the guy that represents the group on CNN and I have seen him on before. They give him a lot of air time too. I have no problem with air time for all voices but what kind of constituency does this guy represent in numbers so I can put what he says into perspective. Being a gay Republican seems almost like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders to me but I may be wrong? I also wish they would give equal time to some liberal gay spokespeople that they give to this guy.

1. From what I read...
...I believe approximately 25% of gays and lesbians voted for Bush during the last election.

Log Cabin Turnout Report: More than One Million Gays Voted for Bush
With Election Not Yet Determined, Bush-Cheney Captures 25% of Gay Vote

(WASHINGTON) In what may have been the closest presidential election in U.S. history, the Republican presidential nominee, Governor George W. Bush of Texas, captured more than one million votes from self identified "gay, lesbian or bisexual" Americans, according to exit polling published by several news networks.

Both CNN and ABC News reported that the gay vote made up 4% of the national total, with the Republican nominee capturing 25% of the gay vote, compared with 70% for Democrat Al Gore and 4% for Green Party candidate Ralph Nader. The exit polls did not report a state-by-state breakdown of the result....

-------------------------------------------------------------

So, 25% of that 4% national votes is 1%.

That means 1% of the total votes going to Bush were from gays and lesbians.

We can safely assume that he will not get most of those votes this year.

5. I emailed the group site yesterday after * made his "protect marriage"
speech and asked them if they were ready to admit that they were HATED by their party of choice yet. Idiots. I can understand that they support some values that they claim as Republican - but hey, when do REThugs get a lock on being the only ones who want

From their website mission statement:
mission of the Log Cabin Republicans derives from our firm belief in the principles of limited government, individual liberty, individual responsibility, free markets and a strong national defense.

  • Smaller Government - I'd like it smaller
  • Individual Liberty - I want them out of my bedroom.
  • Fiscal Responsibility - Quit pissing away my tax dollars
  • Individual Responsibility - I'm old enough to make my own decisions, stop trying to legislate those that you'll agree with.
  • Free Markets - Yes, don't give all the business to Halliburton and Bechtel
  • Strong National Defense - As a veteran, I am appalled at the squandering of our military might, dollars and prestige on *'s Oil War.

Hmmm, maybe if I was masochistic enough to think I could be "accepted" by them, I could join too now that I know how well I fit in.

6. I feel bad for some of these guys.
Andy Sullivan gave a passionate, emotional interview last night on CNN. He said that he cannot vote for anyone that is biased like this. He was hurt by this and you could see it. This is just terrible. Gavin Newsome put so me joy into people's lives and Bush just wants to take it away.

8. RCR Are Just A TAD Naive
In their written statement - still thinking that Bush ran as a "uniter, not divider" "compassionate conservative" - Sorry LCR, any guy who had absolutely no problem issuing death sentence for 200+ human beings is evil.

They didn't see this coming?

Hateful republican's by far outnumber gay republican's.

9. Sullivan, like all egocentric Republicans,
only takes a progressive stand when an issue effects him personally.

for example,
-Sullivan, being a homosexual, is concerned only about gay rights.
-Rush, having his medical records searched through for evidence of his crimes, is now all for privacy rights.

Even when these people do the right thing, its for selfish reasons

7. Holy Crap ....
One of the Board of Directors of Log Cabin Republicans in my city is a guy who used to live across the street from me. He lived there with his partner. He is the son of the owner of a well known burger joint in town. Very nice guy, enjoyed having him as a neighbor.

The only reason I can think that makes him Republican is that he is rich. His family has money, and he is an investment broker.

Cheers
Drifter

10. LCR Will Still Stay With GOP -
"No matter what happens in the coming months, Log Cabin will stay in the GOP and fight."
Log Cabin considers support for this amendment a declaration of war on gay and lesbian families.
