Violence is Violence is Violence! Why didn't Mel have a Jew carjack Jesus... Heck... I think that would be less violent than his current movie.

Where is the Conservative outrage over such violence? I know where it is..It's at the Movie with a big tub of Popcorn sitting there with their kids, enjoying the torture of Jesus.... Lovely!

17. GTA vs The Bible
The idea being suggested hree is that the bible is far more violent than Grand Theft Auto. Forget the movie. Does GTA have disembowelment of pregnant women? Does GTA have 42 children being mauled by bears for calling some guy baldy? Does GTA have the slaughter of entire nations? Does GTA have the destruction of every living thing on the planet except for one boat load of refugees?

3. Apples and oranges
Is boxing the same as a gang brawl?

One purports to be a film representation of the death of a major ficure in the predominant religion within the U.S. The other is about killing people for money or nothing at all.

Personally I believe any god who allows his son to suffer such immense torment in order to absolve others is not the kind of father I'd want.

4. Apples and Oranges for kids...?
I contend that a severe violent movie is just as emotionally damaging as a video game. So it's not apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned!

6. You can contend
Whatever you want. Although I'm sure that not too many kids are forced to play GTA with their parents.

7. What?
I'll go and see the film.

I don't hate you at all. I just feel that the story of Christ's death is hardly compelling in terms of setting the stage for a compassionate God.

16. I'm guessing
you have no idea just how important the story of the Passion is to christians, do you? Christ's death and resurrection are the core elements of the Christian faith.

19. Really?
I thought that Jesus had a bit part.

No i think you'll find that I understand it quite well. Wether I accept that it's reasonable for a God to allow his son to be tortured to death is another thing entirely.

23. Freddie and Jason
Do not have a real history of killing thousands of people in an attempt to force belief. The story of the Passion has a historical past associated with rises in religious zeal. So much so that it has lead to great killing sprees (including historical ties to the rise of the third reich). This is the source of the concern.

We are playing with belief here. The very definition of how some see the world around them. People do not see the world through Freddie and Jason filters. Religion defines for some how they see the world. If you ratchet up the anger they feel towards those that do not agree with them you create a very real danger to society.

Jesus was killed by people that did not accept the claim that he was the son of god. The movie shows his very very very very very violent treatment at the hands of those that disagreed with him.

How safe do I feel with a Darwin Fish on my car today? You tell me.

"Violence is Violence is Violence!"

I'm gonna have to disagree. There's this teensy little issue called context.

15. Wel, the explanation is simple
Grand Theft Auto is the glorification of violence committed during illegal acts in a fantasy world while The Passion of The Christ is violence committed as an act of execution on somebody legally convicted of a capital crime.
