The Constitution is NO PLACE to mandate sexual preference!
Damned friggin repukes are pissing me off! We're not suppossed to be
screwing around with the Constitution in order to drive through
a reich-wing, crypto-facist, religious nutcase agenda! That's NOT
what the Constitution is for and its not what our forefathers
would have wanted it to become.
So, what will happen next? Reinstate slavery through the Constitution?
Make women stay in the kitchen and obey their husbands?
Make "foreigners" second-class citizens?

Dammit! I want my country back...NOW!

1. How did prohibition go through?
It seems like only a few amendments actually take things away instead of guarantee rights.

2. No kidding.
What are these people afraid of? I've had gay friends for most of the 46 years I've been alive yet I'm straight as an arrow.

Bush feels homosexual marraige is a threath to traditional heterosexual marraige? Is he suddenly getting the urge to suck dick and take it up the ass?

3. Amen to that.
Democrat's support of equal rights for gays is the biggest reason I am proud to be a democrat. Bush's casual view of the constitution is a slap in the face of every soldier that ever died that we might be free.

So marriage is in danger of being redefined? Not only do I think that is a false and repugnant statement, I am more concerned about basic American values being redefined.

4. yup
and I bet you $100 that this amendment will never be part of the constitution. Bush (or at least Rove) knows this and doesn't care. Apparently they are desperate and are trying to use this a wedge issue because they can't run on their record.

It will back fire on them IMO because the only people this really appeals to are not going to vote for the Dem anyway. If they really need to shore up their base with devices issues they are all but sunk. There may not be a general consensus on the issue, but most Americans reject the hate and bigotry inherent in the anti gay marriage activism.

17. No excuse....
I have many friends that are Gay/Bi including my wife. They are not peverted in any way! Do you enjoy seeing two women together? Is that not perverted also? what about Hetero BSDM? does a women in stilletto heels and a whip excite you? Besides the issue being discussed is not about gay sex, that was resolved months ago when the Supreme Court struck down the Texas sodemy law, this is about equill rights under the law, and the protections and rights granted to a couple living together in a relationship.

25. People who are against gay marriages are bigots.
Just like people who are against interracial marriages.

What I don't get is who people think that just because their own narrow interpretation of the Bible is homophobic that it morally justifies their bigotry.

"And without a US constitutional amendment to prevent that, there will be legal homosexual marriages in this country."

Which is exactly why every intelligent, decent human being who loves their country is against this amendment.

they are not suggesting that homosexual sex be constitutionally banned. They would probably like to but thats but what they're proposing.

9. They want to amend the consititution like hell...
For gay marriage. For foreign born presidents. If they got such a problem with the Constitution why don't they go somewhere else, assholes.

Can someone post to me the part of the Constitution dealing with marriage? I find it absurd that it is even in there. Marriage is a religious thing, is it not?

10. it is not ONLY a religious thing
its a legal status thing as well. It is used to determine property rights, custodial rights regarding offspring, taxes and benefits etc.

14. so its both a state and religious thing...
Seperation of Church and State never existed? Cause with Gay Marriage these two are directly colliding.

18. the whole point of this is specifically to seperate church and state
it was a means of insuring legal status be recognizable for everyone regardless of how they opt to wed themsleves (justice of the peace, shaman, priest, what have you).

I think it is a mistake to think that this discord over same sex marriage is strictly a religious matter. There are peope with no particular faith conflict who do not favor it on societal grounds.

20. What I mean is...
(I don't know what you mean by 'this' in your post topic)

Gay Marriage goes against what the church generally thinks, right? Civil Unions aren't acceptable, in my book, b/c it is based off of the idea of 'seperate but equal' which is segregational bullshit.

Why does the state involve itself in marriage? Shouldn't marriage be done in a church without getting a liscence from the state, and then the newlyweds could go to the state for Civil Union.

If gay marriage wins out in the judicial branches, then it doesn't seperate church and state to any further extent. If it loses, ditto. Marriage is a religious instituion.

For the sake of civil rights (yes, fuck you Jesse Jackson) I hope gays get thier fair share.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the Constition myself, and I am completely opposed to anyone defiling it with an anti-gay bigot amendment. Stop the Constition Crackers before they start!

24. Why bigot?
I've seen several posts on here basically saying, if you're anti-gay you're a bigot? Why?

Do you believe all religious people are bigots? If your truly a christian following the bible, (or Islam), you can't condon homosexuality.

Do you believe that because I don't condone pedophiles I'm a bigot?

Do you believe that because I don't support rapists I'm a bigot towards rapists?

That's ludicrous. I thought we as liberals and progressives were supposed to support free thought and expression.

26. It is not black and white
I respect your right to hold your beliefs, but I have the right to find those beliefs bigoted.

"If your truly a christian following the bible, (or Islam), you can't condon homosexuality."

Tell that to my friend who is a preacher and doesn't believe that. You simply cannot speak for all Christians through what is your, or your church's subjective interpretation of "following the bible."

Your church has the right not to marry a gay couple, but the national government should not be meddling in this, it is discrimination. Who are you to define and legislate what is love?

27. LOL
There's plenty of gay christians. There are gay ministers, gay priests, and plenty of church performed gay marriages, historically and presently. Even Jesus may have been gay.

Maybe you're refering to Leviticus? So you've read the Bible? Are you equally against shellfish and cotton polyester mixes? Remember, thou shall not give false witness.

You know, bigots like to compare gays and other minorities to rapists.

Your bigotry is blinding you. Why are you comparing perfectly normal people with criminals? I think you have an agenda and it's a bigotted one. I do hope you come to your sense sometime soon, but I won't be holding my breath.
