3. It will take many mant votes
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 10:03 PM by Walt Starr
67 to be precise in order to pass the amendment in the Senate.

Two thirds of the House are also required.

Then three fourths of the States.

It's a smokescreen meant to shore up the radical Christian Conservative base this year. Without that base, Bush loses hands down just like his old man who lost that base.

5. Sad truth is it will pass.
Name one Republican Senator outside of Chaffee who would vote against it.

They would only need to pick off 17 Democrats and they will get them.

They have the votes in the House.

Look at all the states where the GOP controls the legislatures. Almost all the Southern, Western and Midwestern states are controlled by GOP legislators. They will be one big rubber stamp.

In fact outside of California, New York and Massachusetts, what state will reject it?

8. It won't pass
Speaker Hastert has already admitted it won't pass in the house. Frist says a vote would be close. I suspect it won't be close, but I'm willling to bet some traitor Democrats will go to the Republican side on this. The only one other than Zell Miller (who in reality is not a Democrat), is Ben Nelson of Nebraska.

I also think there will be a number of Republicans who will oppose it...Chaffee, Snowe, Collins, and I bet McCain.

12. I'm not sure that P. Fitzgerald (R-IL) would vote for it.
He's on his way out and has been known to be the only senator to vote against something.

18. I seriously doubt that Olympia Snowe would vote for it....
besides Chaffee, I do think there may be other moderate Repubs that won't vote for it. Probably also Susan Collins, Arlen Spector and maybe even John McCain.

I saw a comment from the slime bucket, Tom Delay that even suggests he is reluctant to go for a constitutional amendment! See Josh Micca Marshall's TPM site: "What does it tell you when House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) isn't sure he wants to be as reckless, extreme and divisive on gay rights as President Bush? This from a late story on the Associated Press newswire ..."
