4. I know it's "not scientific"
and all that jazz - but what happened to that vast majority of the population who oppose same-sex marriage? I guess they aren't showing up for this particular poll.

11. Before Bush came and started harping on his hate messages, most
polls showed live and let live. This is another crime
he's responsible for, the making acceptable this kind
of hate.

15. Had this conversation with my boss a while back -
I said I fully support same-sex marriage, and he told me the "vast majority" of my fellow Americans did not agree with me. I told him I did not believe that, and I still don't. I think the statistics they quote are BS, quite frankly.

On the other hand, I wasn't aware of any information regarding polls taken before the administration and the media started in on the issue of same-sex marriages - if what you say is true, then I will be delighted to announce that information to him, as well. :)

5. Voted 'No'
And just for the record, I want to express my support for Lou Dobbs to rejoin the Teletubbies. He was the "fifth Teletubby" before a contract mishap cut him from the cast of the show.

I'm sure they'd welcome him back with open arms.

Give 'em hell, Lou.

6. NM briefly allowed same sex marriage licenses
...only because a fundy clerk of court decided it was a way to force the state AG to issue a ruling on the legality. The ruling against gay marriage in NM was based on DIVORCE LAW(!) which specifies property be divided between a husband and a wife. They're already challenging this silly ruling, of course.

The funniest part was when the Colorado Springs fundy owned local TV station tried to find people to interview. They tried a townie bar, and nobody thought it was a big deal. The only guy they got to say "It aint right" was some trucker, and he was unable to elaborate on why "it aint right."

Sometimes I love the folks in this state.

12. Offensive...
I'm finding a lot of language on this website really offensive. Fundies??? Does anyone get away with calling people Jewies...or Musies? Why is it ok to bash Christians around here? Are Christians not welcome?

13. Hey sport: "fundie" not always "Christian"
Nice try to turn it into your favorite whine: "Christian bashing!"

But, fundamentalists (ie., fundies) come in all religious flavors.
There are plenty of Christians on this board---including clergymen and clergywomen. Fundamentalists have not "gone back to basics" but are actually unthinking drones who take orders based on bad scriptural understanding (and some amazingly made up stuff)

Go home and play that game,

16. And many posters are indeed Christian
you are making an illogical argument:
Fundie or Fundamentalists = anti-Christian poster language.

Many of us do not like Fundamentalists of any religion and many Christians do not at all like Christian Fundamentalists. Why? Because they don't use the brain the good Lord gave them.

18. Wellstone Democrat is exactly right, coloktm.
I use the term Fundies instead of automatonic, mindless soul-droids who wear titanium blinders and try to shove their private religious limitations into public arenas like education and civil liberties.

They have a lot of explaining to do and right now we happen to be a Democratic Party more united than usual against Bush, who panders to their ignorance and phobic hatefulness at every turn.

On DU I imagine you'll encounter stronger language about Fundies than you've heard in this thread, and properly so.
