Perrys, donors go to Bahamas

Watchdog groups decry trip; governor's spokesman calls it a working retreat

By CHRISTY HOPPE / The Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry, his wife and staff and some of the state's largest GOP donors traveled last week to the Bahamas, where they talked about school finance, officials said Monday.

The three-day trip was a working retreat during the Presidents Day weekend, said Robert Black, a spokesman for Mr. Perry.

Also on the trip was Grover Norquist, a Washington-based anti-tax leader, and Brooke Rollins, director of the conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation, and her husband, Mark.

Next month Mr. Perry and his wife, Anita, are traveling to Italy for 10 days on a trade mission paid for by the Texas Economic Development Corp.

3. Isn't it great
that they have to travel to the Bahamas to talk about how they are going to bleed the schools to death? Hell, they could do that in Austin, but then they wouldn't be bleeding the schools.

4. no wonder she wants a divorce...how tortured to go with Grover
Norquist to the beautiful and romantic Bahamas....IMO, having Grover around would be enough to make any woman RUN AWAY....'

speaking of BIG expensive reTHUGlican bashes....noticed a LOT of those going on lately, no doubt with campaign money....

and just a few months ago, reTHUGlicans bragged of bushies $ 200 MILLION campaign war chest...this last week, news reports simply say that shrub has 'more than $ 100 MILLION for the campaign"....seems to be dwindling fast...like the BIG reTHUGlican governors dinner at the Washington DC Convention Center, renting an entire Cruise Ship, and massive group trips to the Bahamas to meet with enron officials at their off-shore offices....all this is VERY expensive...

10. This makes me so mad
and not just at repukes, but dems that do this kind of thing also. Spending tax payer money to fly off to exotic locations for three days and then spend 30 minutes giving lip service to a major issue to justify the expense.
