Exactly how conservative is America?
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 04:50 PM by Skidmore
For all the caterwauling the extreme RW does about knowing what Americans think, want, or believe, I think they are going to be extremely surprised when they learn that many more people are tolerant and accepting of others than they estimate. I don't believe that the hardnosed rhetoric that reverberates in the conservative echo chambers is what is embraced by the majority of Americans. I think our fellow countrymen, by in large, have a finer sense of fairness, justice, and humanity than is assumed. I see that for an increasing number, appealing to their better natures, is working. I want to be optimistic about us as a people. We are collectively better than this cabal would present us to the world. Let's help our countrymen rise above the fear and trauma. We can make this election season an opportunity to heal our nation or we can help * and his minions destroy all we love and believe.

I hope this does not sound too naive. If we can't rise above our own prejudices and fears and help others to do this as well, then we are also doing our nation a disservice.

1. It is not too naive, we are in the majority!
If television has done one good thing since its creation it has introduced people to different races and different ideas. Televison shows like All in the Family and Different Strokes and Sesame Street have injected a conscience into the majority of Americans. Don't worry, we'll be OK.

2. There
There are more liberals. The problem is we have the hardest time getting our people out to vote. especially in places like VA and WV. I seriously believe the Dems could win in VA

4. Enough to prefer to pay for killing someone else's child instead of

spending the money on medical treatment for their own.

5. Not that conservative at all, according to Michael Moore
There's an entire chapter in his new book, "Dude, Where's My Country?" that is all about how liberal Americans really are. We want the environment protected, we support a woman's right to choose, and many other examples of how we would be such a liberal nation if only conservatives would stop exploiting the fears of the average American.

You're not naive. We just need to learn how to fight back to win what's rightfully ours!

6. I Agree..
They virtually control the media and yet their influence of misinformation or lack of makes it seem to most that people are very conservative. It's bull. I have noticed many of my encounters with people who appear to be conservative are only conditioned by the media and lack of. When I have explained to them in a civil manner, what the facts were pertaining to the subject at hand, they appeared to be somewhat stunned, then mad and finally mildly embarassed. Their views changed, not completely, however with speculation as to what the truth really was.
