1. He's not running as a Green
Why would Greens vote for him?

3. While you might get answers to that question here...
...you are unlikely to learn the truth of it here on DU.

7. My 2 cents
Nader got my vote in 2K, largely because I was attracted to the strategy of using Nader's celebrity to legitimize a third party - specifically the Greens, a party my beliefs happen to be strongly aligned with. Nader will not be getting my vote this year for two reasons: one, he's not running as a Green, but as an independent, and because of that I couldn't be less attracted to him as a candidate. Two, this election is a binary; W* either wins or loses. A third party vote does nothing to help him lose. I've never registered as a Green because I prefer to give my primary votes to progressive Dems - though I deeply admire both men, a primary choice between Ralph Nader and Jello Biafra is of little use to me. Much as I'd like to see the Greens do better electorally, it's plain, based on the 2K debacle, that that needs to start in local elections, like how the Christian Coalition did it.

9. is the independent party "the ego party?"
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 04:59 PM by noiretblu
may i gently suggest that it's none of your business who anyone else votes for? this kind of "litmus test" crap is tiresome and divisive. and frankly...who i vote for is none of your business.

12. Peace to you. Sorry - the political scene has gotten me real rattled and..
I've been shooting from the hip far more than I like too. I personally love the Green platform, I'm just an ABB guy right now. You are correct, it is none of my business who votes for who, I am just looking for a REAL view of the political landscape, and I trust DU folks' views more than the media. Thanks for the response :toast:

13. Like Ralph, like his message, Ditto for the Greens
but I have to be pragmatic this one time and vote with the Dems against the $hrubs.

14. That's what I was wondering
I feel the Greens have the good message - but we've never been up against fascism like this. Hell Emperor George II makes Reagan look like Will Rogers (no offense to Mr. Rogers, God rest his soul)

15. Yeah, my party is rumbling over what to do now
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 06:50 PM by GreenPartyVoter
a) run no presidential candidate

b) run a home-grown Green candidate in safe states

c) Draft Nader (Still a state-by-state option)

It's hard because we are fighting to stay alive as a party, but many of us are also frantic over the state of the Union and are willing to do whatever it takes to get this junta out of power.

Of course, that's assuming that they don't steal the election again. If that happens, and if the American people are wise to it this time, there could be rioting. Not everywhere, but in some places I would not be surprised.

P.S. For what it's worth, I am not a repentent Nader voter, but I do swear I thought that Gore (blah as he was) had the election locked up. So my vote for Ralph was supposed to be safe. Who ever thought that a guy who can't even speak the language of his nation would WIN?!

17. Yes, there are Greens the world over
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 06:53 PM by GreenPartyVoter
just like there are Socialists and Democracts (or something similar) elsewhere.

But the Greens are trying to maintain a sense of unity across borders.

18. International?
I Know Greens are powerful in Germany, New Zealand, and Britian. Look for it on the web. I think, it is.

There is a push to have a International Democratic Party also. Union members have already formed Internationally to fight globalization.
