How many amendments are there that LIMIT rights?
I can only think of prohibition, which was an unmitigated distastor.

I guess term limits on Presidents counts but that is a pretty small class it is affecting (unless you think it is affecting voters which makes it a pretty big issue).

Anyway, can you think of one?

1. The 18th was the only one that limited the rights of the people.

2. ABC's Terry Moran raised that....
.....in the press conference. He said this is the only amendment to limit rights since prohibition and we all know how that one turned out.

3. The law is whatever a judge says it is
The constitution is just a piece of paper.

The law is whatever a judge says it is.

If a judge says some right is protected, it is.

If a judge says it isn't, well, then it isn't.

This is why the confirmation of judges is such an important issue.

6. Not quite true
Law is set on precedent so it is the sum total of what a lot of judges have said about how laws that were voted on by elected officials relate to each other.

An amendment banning gay marriage is required because it is currently unconstitutional under the 14th amendment to prevent people to marry because of gender. The only legal choice currently available is to allow gay marriage or end civil unions for everyone.

Has the diamond industry weighed in on this yet?

8. The constitution...
has never been amended to take rights. Prohibition was a silly Republican thing. The Dems had to fix it. Term limits, more Republican mischief.

You are so right. The battle is joined. The Law of the Land vs The Hillbilly mythology. Its progress vs "I'm stupid and proud of it". I think we can win.
