Outrage Over Bush Support For Gay Marriage Ban
(Washington, D.C.) Gay rights groups, civil libertarians and Democrats all expressed outrage over President George W. Bush's call today for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

Saying that activist judges and a few local authorities have left no alternative to "protect the most fundamental institution of civilization" Bush called on Congress to pass amendment legislation. (story)

"Americans should be deeply saddened by President Bush's decision to support enshrining discrimination in our Constitution," San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom told 365Gay.com.

"Throughout our history, the United States Constitution has been used to expand freedom and fight discrimination. Today President Bush has chosen a path that runs counter to our nation's most cherished values of freedom and justice."

Furthermore," said Newsom "plainly speaking, I am deeply disturbed by the President's lack of truthfulness regarding his decision. The facts are clear: President Bush promised the right wing of his party that he would support this effort to codify discrimination in the Constitution long before San Francisco's decision to uphold the state constitution.

1. Here's what YOU can do, for FREE:
Check my new signature line for details. I called MY congress-critters, AND a few other people's congress-critters. TRY IT! It only takes about 60 seconds. Sometimes, not even that. And it's FREE!

6. Just called Trent Lott's office and complained
I feel a little bit better, it makes me feel good to let them know that even here in Mississippi some people are upset about their repulsive decisions.

10. Thanks back atcha - especially to Skinner who helped me figure it out.
So simple, even I could do it!

I just got a little frustrated typing the same message out so many times. But people need to know that phone number! So I figured I might as well let EVERY post do the nagging for me, automatically!

So many on the left were worried about Gavin Newsome being a "DLC Democrat", you've got to admit he's turning out to be pretty good! :D

Pretty great of him to take on the Gropinator that way...as well as taking on Dub! :7

7. I think it's time for someone to remind Bush about Mark Bingham
and ask him how it can be "patriotic" to deny someone like this hero the right to marry in his own homeland.

11. Timing of Amendment
Okay, suppose the House votes soon (and supposing it passes with the supermajority), can the Senate (supposing they DO NOT muster a supermajority) dispense with this soon, so that it is out of the media before the Fall elections, thus moving it to the next congress.

Just a thought.

12. unfortunately
most of the outrage is from people who wouldn't have voted for him in the first place. His endorsement if probably a good political move since when polled, a majority of people favor it. It also will be something that will amount to nothing in the long run and political gain in the short run.

13. Ive been debating on another MB about this
They insist that gay marriage will lead to pedophilia. Since they make that jump we can also assume hetero marriage leads to bestiality? I mean thats quite a leap there.
