Will Transgender People Not Be Allowed to Marry Anyone?
Or only other Transgenders?

Just wondering. Some people are actually born naturally hermaphroditic, with both sets of genitals. Where do they fit in? Ugly can of worms these assholes want to open...

7. TG marriage
'Think it would depend on what was on their birth certificate'

Problem with that is, the law on that varies so much from state to state.

For instance, someone born in Illinois can have the gender on their birth certificate changed after SRS(Sex Reassignment Surgery) However, someone born in Ohio (I believe, and Florida as well) can't get their birth certificate changed. Ever.

So, if you go by the birth certificate, TG people from Illinois have more rights than those from Ohio, regardless of where they live.

:wtf: ??????

8. Yup, as I said, ugly can of worms
that's why the state should NEVER be involved in things that are so personal and private. It's none of their fucking business...

4. Marriage is a legal contract between two people

1st amendment, 14th amendment.

Either enforce both, or amend the first, repeal the 14th, and substitute the bush amendment.

5. Excellent point.
The proposed amendment just says "a man and a woman."

Transgendered, hermaphrodites, etc. all might not quite fit in.

But, chances are if you subscribe to the amendment's point of view, you don't care about people who don't fit into the labels anyway.

6. Heard on Seatlte KIRO 710
Male and Female get married. Male gets a gender change. Now they are a lesbian couple. (The wife/female was cool with the change).

So will DOMA mean they have to be separated by the state? Will the Penis Police check for exactly one penis per married couple?

9. A few years ago, 2 lesbians married in San Antonio
One of them had been born a man & went the surgery route. According to Texas law, she was still a man.

Therefore, the marriage was legal. I imagine that a few heads exploded about this one.

10. It totally depends on who and when the marry
I met a transgendered person (man to woman) legally married to her wife because when married the birth certificate for the transgendered person said "MAN". Now it says woman, but the marriage already happened.

Okay, after a transgendered person goes through the change (difficult process involving therapy, living like the gender you feel, surgery, medication, etc.) they are allowed to change their legal documents (birth certificate and driver's license).

Once they change their documents, they must (if the amendment were to pass) marry someone opposite of their new gender; however, if they get married to someone opposite of their pre-change gender, then can then be married to someone of the same gender because the amendment doesn't go into details about when the two people have to be what gender.

Confused? You won't be on the next episode of SOAP (Stupid Overated Amendment People!)

not clearly at all, but I'm glad you were joking...Perhaps an emoticon or a sarcasm notation would have been a good idea...

Have we not been paying attention to the board today? There are plenty of posters here who are NOT kidding about this stuff...

Uh, what exactly does that mean?

I got news for you, you strip down a post-op TS, and you won't know the difference.

So, it's got to be all or none.

Unless it's only unattractive TGs you don't want getting married. And how will you tell them from ugly ordinary people?

14. check the chromosomes
No, the chromosomes aren't the final determinant.

For one thing, there are people out there who have 'mosaic' DNA. Meaning that they have some XX and some XY. Then there are people who appear and were raised in one gender, but have the opposite chromosomes (usually this is discovered when puberty fails to occur, but if they're XY, raised as female, and happen to be happy as female, would you require that they be considered male?)

And to say it's a matter of chromosomes is to not understand TG in the least. It's dismissive of the lives and experiences of TG people.

17. What about xy females?
There's more of them out there than you would probably think. Some of them are models because they tend to be lean, tall and have narrow hips and tiny breasts (the ridiculous current standard of "beauty"). You can peep in the shower all you like and everything you see will be female. Some of them never know until they fail to menstruate and discover they have no womb.

13. Here is good one and its true
I know a Transgender lesbian...in other words this is someone who was born with male genitalia who identifies as a woman. This person lives as a woman, takes hormones to accentuate feminine features and has breasts.

She prefers the company of women but is "with" them as a woman is with a woman not as a man would be, if you get my drift.

Legally she is seen as a man so she could actually marry her lover legally...until she has sexual reassignment surgery at which point she will be seen legally as a woman and then who the fuck knows what will happen.

Gender is more complicated than we are willing to admit.
