Andy Rooney Calls Mel Gibson 'Wacko,' Drawing Ire
NEW YORK — Andy Rooney set the phone and e-mail lines at CBS buzzing over his commentary — in which he said God was speaking through him — calling Mel Gibson and the Rev. Pat Robertson "wackos."

CBS said Monday it received its heaviest audience response to a "60 Minutes" report since Rooney's commentaries on the Iraq war last spring.

The network wouldn't specify how many calls or e-mails were received. "60 Minutes" spokesman Kevin Tedesco said it was "several times the normal feedback."

On Sunday's broadcast, Rooney commented on Robertson's January statement that he believes God has told him that President Bush would be re-elected in a "blowout" in November.

1. Rush Limbaugh was on this
Basically he said "When I said that Donaven McNabb was not as good as we think he is, I got in the papers for months, but Rooney says this and it's ok. That's because it's ok to insult Christians in our society."

I need hardly point out that good old Rush's drug files came out about the same time as the McNabb Situation, so the two stories were linked.

3. Yup, Rush is a Christian, alright.
What a maroon! He's in the papers cause he BROKE THE LAW. He bought a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE and USED it!!! This guy is such an addict. Classic addictive personality--can't put the pills down and has no insight into his behavior.

2. Rooney also suggested that
Pat Robertson should declare himself an athiest if his prediction that GW Bush will win the fall Prez election in a "blowout" doesn't come true.

LOL!

4. I Wouldn't Want to Saddle the Athiests With That Loser
I'd rather see Robertson's CBN empire dismantled.

9. Wouldn't it be cool to hold Robertson to his BS when
Bush loses? We have to hold him to account for his predictions. Hee, hee, hee. Show everybody he doesn't have God's ear.

11. I'm Waiting for President Kerry...
...to direct the IRS to conduct a complete and thorough investigation of Pat Robertson, the 700 Club, and The Christian Broadcasting Network.

5. I saw that
I don't normally watch 60 minutes, but I did the other night. And I just about dropped my jaw listening to Andy. :wow:

But he said things that needed to be said.

WTG Andy! :D

6. If Pat Robertson and Mel are representative of Christians
then Christians should be calling in to Andy and saying these wackos are not Christian.

If Christians aren't doing this, then Christians should be chastised heavily for supporting the indescribable hypocracy and utter lack of morality of Robertson who stands side by side with brutal dictators such as Charles Taylor as long as it makes him money.

And Christians should be scolding for support a nutbag like Mel that thinks religion should be taught in a language that is not understood by anyone but the clerics with funny hats. Being stupid sheep that are instructed through life is not equivalent to being a human being that can make moral decisions. If you can't understand the instruction and guidance of the leaders of your church, and are dumb enough to follow some vague hand signals from their deacons, you are too ignorant to be living outside of an institution. The 12th century was a horrible time for civilization. Why someone would want to model their world after these abysmal times so utterly lost in disease, ignorance, brutality, and crusades is beyond me.

10. Evidence Andy is right.
Pat Robertson predicted that Orlando Fla. would be hit by a hurricane or tornado or "maybe even a meteor" because of Disney's decision to extend benefits to same-sex partners. Mel Gibson said about Frank Rich (who rightfully criticized Gibson's father for downplaying the Holocaust) "I want to kill him. I want his intestines on a stick."

Maybe someone should print up a survey with these statements on them but without the names attached and ask the RW Christians whether they think the person that made this statement could rightfully be described as "wacko".

12. Robertson may be wacko, may be evil
Robertson may know what the right wing has planned in their dirty campaign against our candidate and might be sure of their victory, as Bush also seems to be.

Gibson is, I think, brainwashed.
