Change to Presidential Succession?
With all the furor over the possible Ban on Gay Marriage Amendment, did anyone happen to see a story on Sunday about Frist and Lott pushing to remove the Speaker of the House and the President Pro Tem(sp) of the Senate from the line of succession?

Can't find the story, but I think it was in the Sunday Columbus Dispatch. You have to be a subscriber to view their web-site for free.

So, in review:
-They want to allow foreign born "naturalized" citizens to become president. (not sure this is a bad idea, but it does require a change to the constitution).
-They want an amendment to prevent flag desecration.
-They want an amendment to ban "late-term" abortion.
-They want an amendment to ban gays from getting equal rights.
-Some want to repeal the 14th Amendment.

Now, they want to take out the legislative branch from the line of succession. Why don't they just burn the damn Constitution and start from scratch. That way they could ensure that we always had a * relative in power.

1. I'm not sure . . .
. . . how this implicates the Constitution. Under Article II, Sec. 1, Clause 6 ". . . the Congress may by Law provide for the Case of Removal, Death, Resignation or Inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what Officer shall then act as President . . . ."

The Presidential Succession Act of 1947, codified at 3 U.S.C. sec. 19, establishes the current line of succession (i.e., Speaker of the House, President pro tem of the Senate, Secretary of State, etc.). Thus, if a change were to be made, it would properly be done through congressional legislation.

2. If you gave them the chance to rewrite the constitution,
they would do it in an instant.
