Barbara Bush (Dubya's daughter): Not a Republican???

She's no Republican Party girl

First Daughter Barbara Bush may be devoted to her father, but not necessarily to his party.

Recently, a source asked the 21-year-old Barbara if she was a Republican. "She made a funny face and rolled her eyes," reports our snitch. "She said, 'I really wouldn't label myself that.'"

Texas records show that Barbara and her twin, Jenna, voted as Republicans in the 2000 presidential primary. But one source contends the good-time gals "don't buy into the conservative movement. They don't agree with their father's position on environment and other issues."

A White House spokesman declined to comment. But the Bushes might want to tune in to "48 Hours" next month, when it's due to air a story about the President's fun-loving daughters. Word is that the CBS show and other programs have been bidding for footage of Barbara's now-famous hair-swirling dance with Ecuadoran socialite Fabian Basabe at the Feb. 12 party at Viscaya - captured by our Richard Corkery - after Jennifer Nicholson's fashion show. Barbara's parents are said to be vexed by the publicity surrounding the forbidden dance with party boy Basabe.

Guess Bush's own family doesn't even like him.

(Edited to correct daughter's name)

4. apart from the rumoured party footage--another issue again
I noticed in the late 80s and through this second Bush rule:
trot the women out to give the impression of "dissent"

It was freely admitted in the last of the Reagan years and into BushI that saying that Babs "disagreed" with her husband on such things as Planned Parenthood and abortion and such "leaks" by supposedly neutral reporters (fed to them) *meant* to "comfort" those "swing voters" not comfortable with hard-line social positions.

Pickles has also been used in the same way. She's "really" a Democrat (based on her affiliation from back in the day when "democratic" in Texas was the default party with Dixiecrat overtones); she's "really" conflicted (or hinted at being opposed to) everything from the status of women to abortion, etc.

Now the "girls" are going to be hailed on DU (if you don't think so, watch) as "on our side" or "maybe will spill the beans on the BFEE" or something.
This is an old ploy by the Bushes. Sure, we all have a bit of rebellion against our parents but...when I see one of them stumping for Kerry or doing more than what can also be seen as "no comment" behavior to what is obviously NOT an intimate, I'll believe it.

Until then, this is more in a long line of "humanizing" the Bush gang so that the vast middle of the spectrum uncomfortable with their hard-line religio-conservative base pandering will think: "well, maybe she'll have her husbands'/father's ear...."

Keep dreamin.

5. YIKES!
Are 48 hours asking for it? Everyone knows what happened to that photo editor from a tabloid who ran the photo of one sister who was obviously drunk.

7. I still think that the one's "appendicitis" attack in Christmas 2000
was questionable.

There are ways you can "rename" an abortion.
