The theocrats' stealth attack on the courts

What do the Ten Commandments, gay marriage and Janet Jackson all have in common?

All three are symbols, for the religious right, of "everything that is wrong with America." The fact that a judge was prevented from having the Ten Commandments placed in an Alabama courthouse; that a Massachusetts court legalized gay marriage, followed by the civil-disobedience action by San Francisco authorities in similarly recognizing such unions; and that Jackson was able to "shock" Super Bowl audiences long ago jaded by half-naked cheerleaders and beer commercials by briefly baring her breast -- all these, according to the folks who want to remake America as a "Christian nation," are clear signs that the nation's moral depravity has gone too far.

And as a troika, they are playing a central role in the campaign by this same faction of the right to radically recast the nation's political landscape, primarily by attacking the power of the courts to shape public policy. They are the noisy cover, as it were, for a stealth attack on the judiciary.

(Zealot Zell sez, with the introduction of Christian Reconstructionist legistion)-- "In doing so, I stand shoulder to shoulder not only with my Senate co-sponsors and Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama but, more importantly, with our Founding Fathers in the conception of religious liberty and the terribly wrong direction our modern judiciary has taken us in."

Just in case there was any misapprehension about the purposes and underlying intent of this legislation, Miller went on to denounce notions of church-state separation, harking to theories promulgated by Christian Reconstructionists that there is no such thing because the words don't appear in the Constitution.

2. These people are just plain stupid...
I love this quote: "Miller went on to denounce notions of church-state separation, harking to theories promulgated by Christian Reconstructionists that there is no such thing because the words don't appear in the Constitution."

Oh, duh! They conveniently forget that George Washington quite plainly stated that the US was most definitely not to be constructed as a Christian nation, and that the separation of church and state was a necessary part of the structure. Fools.

3. these people are the SS of the right wing
and they support violent death for people who are gay, who do not agree with their religious beliefs, to females who are not virgins before they are married, to any female who has ever received an abortion, to anyone who would oppose them, basically.

this is why is it IMPERATIVE to get Bush out of office, because, as Kevin Phillips noted in American Dynasty, Bush has taken his place as the head of this extremist faction since Robertson resigned.

Bush is a dangerous man, as they all are.

If they are allowed to continue these actions, we are looking at civil war, imo.

I will not allow my country to be hijacked by these religious extremists.

I will not allow them to make my country a hell hole for my children and every other child who would have to suffer their "morality."

7. I couldn't agree more...
and what really makes me angry is that many still will not open their eyes and try to see where this will all lead. There are times when I think that if we continue our willful ignorance, we absolutely deserve whatever ultimately happens to this society.

5. Corporate theocracy
is the goal and these reconstructionist nutjobs are in COMPLETE control of the companies manufacturing the electronic "voting" machines. I can't understand why that isn't being made into as big of an issue as it is, it sums up the ENTIRE problem with these devices and reveals the motive.

8. Theonomic Reconstructionism and the touchscreens
ONE GOD ONE VOTE

"My purpose is total integration of biblical law into our lives." Howard Ahmanson

Theonomic Reconstructionism is a belief that the only true authority is God's, that allegiance to biblical laws trumps that of civic law and that the Kingdom of Heaven needs to be built on Earth before Jesus will come again. In addition to that, homosexuals should be put to death, women should be banned from civic office, apostates and heretics should be stoned to death and there is a great need for more Christian politicians.

According to the Reconstructionists, Jesus would do what Howard Ahmanson did. Ahmanson inherited his money from his father, owner of Home Savings & Loan. In addition to funding PACs and think tanks, Howard Jr. parlayed his fortune into the majority stock of a business called American Information Systems started by two enterprising brothers, Todd and Bob Urosevich. AIS later merged with Business Records Corporation and became Election Systems & Solutions. ES&S is the number one provider of touch-screen voting machines, Their website claims that their products were used in collecting 56% of the national vote in the last presidential elections.

Todd Urosevich is now Vice President of ES&S. Strangely enough, brother Bob moved on to head the second largest computerized vote counting business, Global Election Systems, recently purchased by ATM and security giant Diebold. Combined, these three corporations will process nearly 80% of the next nationwide elections.

Do you know these people?

Bill Frist
Mitch McConnell
Rick Santorum
Bob Bennet
Kay Bailey Hutchinson
Jon Kyle George Allen

They are the seven highest ranking Republican Senators in the U.S. Senate.

Every one of them recieved a scorecard of 100% from Christian Coalition.

That means they voted with Christian Coaliton 100% of the time.

How were people representing such an extreme ideological point of view elected to the top positions in the Republican Party?

The leaders of the Republican Party were chosen by their colleagues.

"Jesus Christ is, therefore, the Ruler of Nations, and should be explicitly confessed as such in any constitutional documents. The civil ruler is to be a servant of God, he derives his authority from God and he is duty-bound to govern according to the expressed will of God. The civil government of our nation, its laws, institutions, and practices must therefore be conformed to the principles of Biblical law as revealed in the Old and New Testaments."

Check my new signature line for details. Won't cost you a thing.

And EVEN IF you have a knuckledragger "representing" you, he/she needs to hear this, too. He/she needs to know that his/her constituency is NOT wall-to-wall Neanderthals. JUST DO IT ANYWAY. And remind 'em, while you're at it, that WE VOTE, TOO! Tell 'em to consider the HUGE, in fact, RECORD-BREAKING voter turnouts for the recent Dem primaries. Tell 'em to consider THAT.

19. Ah but it only goes one direction. The "Judicial Activism" label...
...is only appplied to Liberal judges, never Conservative ones.

Just like some Dems are called "Massachusetts Liberals" but there are no "Mississippi/Confederate/Texas Conservatives".

Why would that be?

20. Relax - this legislation is clearly unconstitutional
I don't think it will pass but even if it does this is an open and shut case for a Constitutional lawyer. You can't enforce a law that limits the powers judges are granted in the Constitution. Go read the history of a case called Marbury vs. Madison and you will see that I am right. Even Scalia and his toady Thomas are not going to try and overturn Marbury vs. Madison.
