is 50 marines enough man power
to put in Haiti, it seems to me that 50 marines will not be able to protect anything when there are thousands of pissed off and discontent people, it looks like just another place undermanned by this administration. the world is not intimadated by our presence anymore.

3. hope the helicopter is gassed up at the embassy.......
50 marines doesn't sound like enough troops to protect american interests in haiti.

any big corporations/contributors do business down there?

looks like the rebels read the che guevara books.

18. The Haitians will not target the US.
And if they do, they will get leveled. 50 marines are pretty tough, especially if they just have to defend the embassy. Besides, more troops are a phone call away.

2. Depends on the task.
Are 50 Marines enough manpower to quell a nationwide uprising, even in a nation as small as Haiti? No. Are 50 Marines enough to protect an embassy? Yup.

Are 50 Marines and the associated equipment and support such a task force would require enough to wipe a small town off the map? Oh, hells yeah. :D

4. 50 marines is plenty
the rebels have no reason to lose thousands of people attacking the us embassy. Plus if anything did happen we could have more people there within an hour I bet.

5. Haiti has no military, ergo no experience.
The marines will have mortars, high walls, and .50 cals. They can easily hold long enough for an evac of civilian personnel.

7. Embassy detail
That's all the US embassy in Haiti requires, I suppose.

9. I saw somewhere that there were only 200 rebels
who "took over" a city of 500,000.

I'd say 50 Marines were more than enough.

that they are not intimidated by us?

13. Only 50?
And here I was expecting a rapid response unit of 5000 marines, armed to the teeth, with embedded journalists along for the ride.

Imagine the scene:
Journalist: And here we are at Hatii Beaches, we're gonna push as hard as we can, as fast as we can for the ciy centre. Look we're there already, the people are welcoming us with open arms.

Enter Soldier that no-one has ever seen before in any regiment.

Journalist: What do you have there son?
Soldier: Some papers that Uncle Geo...(ahem) President Bush might be interested in. They show a link between the current ex-regime and OSB, Saddam and the Democrats.
Journalist: But they are in an envelope that is only manufactured in the USA.
Soldier: Just another example of their duplicitous methods sir.
Journalist: Where did you find it?
Soldier: In a burnt out room full of burnt documents. It was the only document left unscathed.

16. 50 Marines vs. thousands of Haitians? I'll take the Marines
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 02:50 PM by x-g.o.p.er
50 well armed, well trained, and battle ready Marines is more than enough. I pity those poor Haitians who try to mess with the embassy, I really do.

17. A few good men and women. Enough for ONE embassey, for now.
That could also be all we can spare, for the whole WORLD outside Iraq.

Practically all other forces are either in Iraq, in the pipline, or training up for it.

The rest of the world better just hold still until we're done raping Iraq.
