Stupid headline alert... The Israeli "Barrrier" is "divisive"
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 08:06 PM by Kanzeon
Note: the point of this thread is not Israelis vs. Palestinians.

It's about the stupdity of the media.

I don't know why I didn't see this til now, but

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/23/international/europe/23CND-COUR.html

has the title

" In Hague, Israeli Barrier Proves Divisive Issue "

Duh. It's a friggin' barrier! Do they expect to see "Everyone united by barrier?"

Do a search on "google" using "barrier" and "divisive."

Is this some kind of newsy cutesy stupidity, or are they just taking us for fools?

Any other recent examples of stupid headlines?

2. Look at how many times it's used in Google!
I mean, what are they thinking... "Hmm... a barrier...what's a barrier? Oh! I know! It's divisive!"

I guess the days of literate journalists who can't but state the obvious are gone.

Too many of those "it's that time of year again stories" maybe...

3. They take us for fools
Here's another one from Yahoo:

Bush Launches More Aggressive Campaign

Not quite as nonsensical, but my husband says, "how could he possibly be more aggressive?"

4. Some more favorites...
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&edition=us&q=probe+expands

I'm always amused at how many times probes expand.

And of course,

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&edition=us&q=homosexuality+down+our+throats&btnG=Search+News

why do they always go for having homosexuality and "down our throats" in the same story?
