Just so he knows where to find me. This is probably the worst thing he can do to for Bush. I think members of all unions should protest loudly. This is a major insult.

1. Can you send me a link?
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 07:28 PM by kiahzero
I know a lot of teachers who'd be interested to know that they're terrorists.

On edit: I mean, to the quote.

34. Whats the NEA made up then?
Monkeys? Chickens? Plumbers? Hell no, its made up of teachers. It was a direct smear of teachers and I don't know how anyone could take it any differently.

7. the NEA had better come out swinging
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 07:37 PM by Pikku
As should the AFT. All unions, in fact, since this is essentially an attack on organized labor.

I just emailed NEA, asking when they'd ask for Paige's resignation.

27. NEA response to Paige "terrorist organization" comment
NEA President Reg Weaver issued the following statement regarding Department of Education Secretary Rod Paige's reference to the NEA as a "terrorist organization" today at a private meeting of governors at the White House.

Weaver said, "It is morally repugnant to equate those who teach America's children with terrorists. NEA is 2.7 million teachers and educators who are fighting for children and public education. Yet this is the kind of rhetoric we have come to expect from this Administration whenever one challenges its worldview."

22. He should be a felon...
His Houston schools were the marvel of Bush* Texas miracle. Paige however has dodged the facts that they never tested low performing students. Instead, they let them drop out of school.

That "crooked" miracle is the foundation of "No Child Left Behind." Sorry, but I've been in education for 35 years. There are no miracles, just a lot of hard work and patience. (and my patience has run out with this no-brain outfit!)

Adding massive insult to major injury. If there are any teachers out there who voted Repug in 2000, I hope they've changed their minds.

10. Do you know why this is so humorous?
1. It's probably the only intelligent thing Rod Paige has ever said in his life.

2. It will make it harder for the NEA to pretend it isn't in bed with George Bush, Inc.

3. Education is an issue that drags liberals down into the gutter with conservatives.

My advice? Don't help publicize this incident if you aren't prepared to engage in some intelligent education debates.

and Bill Gates and Mayor Nickels all have secret meetings where they not only control the British crown, and keep the metric system down, but also keep the Martians under wraps and keep Atlantis off the maps.

26. Sheez!
You're probably the worst propagandist I've ever encountered at DU!

Of course, Bill Gates and Mayor Nickels have secret meetings - so does every public official in King County.

But I think they're too busy figuring out new ways to screw the public to worry about controlling the British crown, the metric system, Martians and Atlantis.

But if you evidence to support your assertions, maybe you should dig a little deeper!

21. "It's probably the only intelligent thing Rod Paige
has ever said in his life." Absolutely agree. Paige is another suck-up Uncle Tom who sounds like an idiot every time he opens his mouth. Fits in perfectly with this misadministration. Ask him what he did to the schools in Houston.

As a Black person, I wanna know where Bush found all these sorry Negroes for his cabinet.

I thought he was just talking about the terrorists in the NEA--you know, just the ones who despise religious liberty and parental consent and authority--not everyone.

You mean he thinks the entire membership is comprised of Marxist thugs?

20. By religious liberty
I assume you mean the freedom to teach kids that a magic man in the sky created the world on a whim in six days, and that anyone who tells you anything else is a damn liar?

That kind of religious freedom?

The kind that keeps people uninformed and incapable of critical thought?

33. You mean the ones who teach Evolution?
Is that what "despise religious liberty" means?

And "parental consent and authority"--is that directed at the teachers who don't believe in corporal punishment? Those kids oughta be hit at school--it works so well at home.

31. Thugs? Evil-teachers? Educators of mass destruction?
looks like bush*'s foot-in-mouth disease is contagious.... Paige caught it with his teachers are terrorists comment

although Paige "apologized" for a "poor choice of words" (cough cough cough)- I think the damage is done and bush* lost more than a few votes....

poor choice of words or not - the bush* mis-asministration through Paige's comment shows just what they think of teachers.

If "terrorist" was a poor choice for a word - what would have been a better one? Thugs? Evil-teachers? Educators of mass destruction?

Education Secretary Paige calls teachers union "terrorist organization"
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/8022280.htm
ROBERT TANNER --Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Rod Paige called the nation's largest teachers union a "terrorist organization" Monday, taking on the 2.7-million-member National Education Association early in the presidential election year.
