GOP Group To Air Pro-Nader TV Ads
A blast from the past. This article is dated October 27, 2000. Clearly the GOP wanted Nader in 2000 and they want him now. Don't be surprised to see the GOP and their surrogates spend a lot more money on Nader this year. And, just like these ads, don't expect Nader to distance his self from them. Nader's lack of denouncing these ads just supports the notion that Nader is in bed with the GOP. Thanks to Buzzflash for this.

<snip>
WASHINGTON –– Hoping to boost Ralph Nader in states where he is threatening to hurt Al Gore, a Republican group is launching TV ads featuring Nader attacking the vice president.

The ads by the Republican Leadership Council will begin airing Monday in Wisconsin, Oregon and Washington, all states that are part of Gore's base and where Nader is polling well. The group plans to spend more than $100,000 at first and hopes to raise more over the weekend.

While the ads boost Nader, they are a clear attempt to help Bush.

1. What if it works the other way
and conservatives displeased with the deficit and Bush in general who can't bring themselves to vote Dem go Independant with Nader? Possible? The Greens I know won't make the mistake of 2000. Maybe 2004 will be the" true conservatives" year of rebellion.

6. I think there is a good chance this will happen.
The Pubs should be careful what they wish for. The other possibility is that Nader will concentrate a lot of his fire on Bush as the incumbent. I heard him this morning and that appears to be what he is doing - as well as actually saying a few nice things about Kerry and Edwards. If Nader turns into an attack dog against Bush he will could free up Kerry to take the high road and talk about the Democratic agenda. The other thing to watch is whether Nader will actually try and get on all 50 ballots or whether he will pick and choose to get on ballots where he is less likely to throw a swing state to Bush. Nader is actually saying that Bush should be impeached. That can't be bad for Kerry or Edwards.

3. Let 'Em Spend...They're Gonna Do It Anyway
Better they throw their money away on a third party candidate who supports a vast majority of what the Democrats do, than on issue advocacy ads that attack a specific Democrat.

Nader's message against the Chimp is far more damning than any Democrat has been and I expect him to turn it up. Would you want someone to call for this bastard's impeachment like Nader has...and a GOOP nutball group paying money to draw attention to that message? Or how about how the Iraq invasion and PNAC are all about oil. He doesn't mince words on this one either.

Given the noise we're already hearing, the more anti-regime ones that are out there...or those directly, or in-directly, throw their money and voices in that effort the better.

Lastly, how does a GOOP ad that's pro-Nader help *? It shows how "radical" Nader is, and by association Democrats? Wait a second, if that was the case then why is Nader running? And he sure isn't as moderate as the Democratic ticket will be, so he sure doesn't make the chimpster look good that way either.

5. No, this is worse
because each dollar they spend on Nader will go further than a dollar they spend on Bush. The Republicans know this and will exploit it to the max.

7. They're Still Gonna Spend It
A friend just mentioned (and Franken on CNN also refered to it) that Nader has little organization and must now get a petition drive to get on enough ballots to create anywhere near a showing like he did in 2000. The odds on this are extremely difficult. His take...and an interesting one...is wouldn't it be great if the GOOPs waste all this money, rile up some Independents who go to the polls and don't see Nader's name...then what do they do? Ya think they're gonna pull, push or spindle for chimpster?

I'd like to see the wingnuts get as shrill and obnoxious as possible...if we're smart, we can label them for the frauds and hypocrites they are and minimalize them for years to come. These guys have tons of cash, and in the overall picture, Nader will fade as a major story and these goons will be trying to fuel another rumor or lie.

Get used to it...this is hardball.

8. You can't rationalize this, you can't spin this in favor of Nader
the VAST majority of Democrats want Bush out. The VAST majority of Democrats see Nader as a threat to the entire world because he will only help elect Bush. The VAST majority of Democrats DO NOT identify with what Nader says over the message of the Democratic Party.

Nader is a stooge and a tool for the GOP and is in this only to help elect Bush. No amount of spinning from the extreme left will change that fact. GOP Nader ads are not going to backfire and get rid of Bush. GOP Nader ads are not going to actually help Kerry. GOP Nader ads are targeted at people that lean Nader and are for the purpose of taking votes away from the Democratic nominee. No amount of spinning and/or rationalizing will change that.
