MN Gov. Pawlenty haters - check in
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 10:10 AM by trotsky
Did you hear what the arrogant bastard said the other day? In reference to DFLers wanting to reject his cro-magnon choice to head the Education department, Cheryl Yecke (Yucky), he said: "Not liking somebody's policy direction isn't a good reason to tube a confirmation. If they don't like the policy direction, they should maybe win an election. That might be a new idea for them."

Hey Pukelenty, you ass, you only won because a liberal Democrat (Moe) and a centrist Democrat (Penny) split the vote, allowing you to win with a plurality. Maybe YOU should try to win an election outright.

And before anyone notes the Clinton/plurality similarities, it must be acknowledged that Perot took voters equally from both sides. Tim Penny was a long-time Democratic representative who ran under the Independence Party in 2002.

I certainly hope the overwhelming arrogance of the current crop of MN Republicans proves to be their undoing.

1. Yo...I am one.
:hi: You have to respect a guy who takes his orders from Cheney. :eyes: I am terrified of Yecke. I have a feeling that Minnesota is going the way of Georgia regarding school curriculum.

2. My uncle is a superintendent
And so naturally he is VERY concerned about Yecke. He's found a bunch of information about the henchmen she brings with her. They've basically scuttled the public education system everywhere they've been. Having Yecke in there would be bad news for MN public schools.

(Just a few weeks ago there was that report released showing MN students way at the top nationally on test scores, and yet Pukelenty and other Repubs are claiming that the DFLers want the "status quo" of poor students. BS! Our students were doing great under the status quo, they just need more money for schools!)

Yecke is a creationist for pete's sake. And Pawlenty wants Minnesota to be a leader in biotech. Good luck with that.

4. Check
I'm hoping she isn't confirmed. Or Molneau. But, it's only because I'm afraid of strong, conservative Republican women.

5. Check
I recently moved from MN to WI, but I still own land in MN and have strong family ties there. Pawlenty is the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing. Superficially an amicable guy, underneath that mild-mannered exterior is a conniving Repug SOB.

6. Its been very depressing living here in MN since '02
First we lose Paul, then we get stuck with this guy. The scary part about Pawlenty is that he seems like a really nice guy in that he doesn't ooze evil a la Cheny nor does he come across as some slick con man like Coleman does. This image belies his real persona that of a poor hating GOP'er. What has happened in Minnesota should send up warning signals to rest of the country. We have gone from a progressive, education loving, willing tax paying, high standrad of life type of state to a Mississippi wannabe. The suburbanite-evangelicals have taken over the state and we are going down the tubes.

7. Very true
Pawlenty's act is smooth. He's got a lot of people fooled. The DFL had better be paying attention to (and writing down) every arrogant thing he says like this - it's the only way Minnesota will get a glimpse of the "true" Pawlenty.

8. Doesn't Pawlenty have a corruption investigation hanging over his head?
I seem to recall seeing something here several weeks ago. Anybody have an update on that? I know, as a Pubbie, it probably won't go anywhere but one can always hope.

9. It sure seems to have been dropped by the media.
Big questions about how he was working as a "consultant" while serving in the House. An obvious sham to get money while voting on legislation favorable to his "employer."

10. When Secretary of Education Rod Paige was here
trying to shore up support for the "No (White) Child Left Behind" program (which has met with a lot of resistance here), that puke Pawlenty promised him Minnesota will not scrap any part of the program.

Yeah, you and what army, you freakin' sleaze!

11. Secret Agent Northernsoul, reporting for duty
greetings to all my fellow MinneDUers from my top-secret location where I'm under deep cover as part of Operation:StickItToDaMan

You know, I'm always game for taking a swipe at Lil' Timmy, the Gimmick Governor!

Write to your favorite DFL state senator and tell them that Yecke and Molnau can take a long walk off a short pier for all we're concerned.

The way these so-called republicans have marched into the state like army ants has been a sight to behold. They are everywhere! Send in some ant spray!

Witness:

On the radio dial, AM 1280 the fascist goes to Nazi talk format the summer of '01.

Ashcroft's ignoring of the Minneapolis FBI field office's request for a FISA on the "19th" 9.11.01 terrorist (who is evidentally not the 19th hi-jacker anymore?!?!)

Evangelical churches springing up all over the 'burbs

The whole Wellstone "republicans-as-funeral cops" sham.

Yecke's social studies standards leaving out large chunks of history.

The politicization of my local school board.

Former republican congressman Vin Weber leading a CIA front organization trying to overthrow Hugo Chavez.

Any others?

ON EDIT:
The collapse of Stockwalk group right around Sept 11, 2001, which seems in part due to the shady financial dealings of former Iran-Contra figure Adnan Khassoghi. The collapse of the group is the largest brokerage failure in like, 20 years. Things that make you go hummmm.

16. Present!
You notice that now the treasurer of Pawlenty's campaign has got himself into trouble over sleezy home loans? What's this, the third or fourth time one of (Bush stooge) Pawlenty's pals has been caught doing something that, at best, shows questionable ethics, yet Timmy remains pure? Apparently, his mom never told him you're judged by the company you keep.

And, while I'm ranting, did you hear his snotty comment last week about Yecke's confirmation hearings - something about if the DFL didn't like his choices, they should try winning elections for a change. I almost went through the TV.

Hey - Timmy, you were elected with a plurality and, despite what I heard a fool on KSTP say, 45% is not an "overwhelming majority". 55% of the voters wanted someone else.

17. Hoping to get a chance to be a delegate
next week at the caucuses.

As a teacher I find all of this "education reform" to be molding Minnesotans into Texans (no offense, but we used to be the leading state in the nation!). But Minnesotans used to care about preparing children for the future regardless of the politics.

Now our schools have been undermined by the right. Yukki (sic) has taken us to new, lower levels. Its embarrassing.
