I wish to announce my candidacy
For U.S. Congress in Florida's 9th district. I'm going to run against long term Republican incumbent Mike Bilirakis. We're in the Tampa Bay area covering parts of Pasco, Hillsboro, and Pinellas Counties.

I need a lot of volunteers to get 5,000 petitions signed in the next 6 weeks to get on the ballot.

I'm a progressive Democrat in the Paul Wellstone model. I'll have a web-site up and running soon, and need about a $500,000 for the campaign. I was told by a consultant today to plan on spending every waking hour for the next 9 months raising money. Sounds like fun, but I guess I'll have to do it. We have to take our country back, and this is a start.

Thanks,

Richard Chapman for Congress:kick:

3. Need help?
I'm not in your district (registered in District 25, where we have Repugnant tool Mario Diaz-Balart in Congress), but I would be willing to help you however I can.

Good luck!

I'll file your e-mail for when we start rolling next week.

BTW, where is the 25th district? I don't have a map at home.

7. I was at Camp Wellstone this week-end also
In Tampa. I also attended the Camp in Orlando in December.

Great training, and I picked up a lot of tips from Roy Temple, who was Mel Carnahans Campaign Manager. He engineered the Ashcroft loses to dead man campaign.

8. I was in Philly
I have been asked if I was interested in running. That was another reason why I went. We had some great people there. So do you need a newbie campaign manager? ;)

13. Yes, but I also need money to pay one.
I met a great woman at Wellstone yesterday. She's working on her masters at USF in medical administration, and volunteered her expertise on Health Care issues. Universal HC will be my main issue, but with her enthusiasm I think volunteer coordinator will be her best job.

6. You have a 29K deficit in Dem voters
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 11:13 PM by Bleachers7
I guess this district was gerrymandered. Anyway, you have a lot of work to do.

10. Gerrymandered to hell
I've heard rumors that Bilirakis may not run, and it was carved out so Johnny Byrd could step in if he doesn't stay in the Senate race.

Makes sense. Why would you stretch the district all the way to Plant City otherwise. He'd be a beautiful target. Universally loathed.

11. I was looking at Hillsborough
They have way more dems than reps, but it looks carved up because of the CD deficit. You have an up hill battle.

It looks like a lot of dems went for the republicans. You have to keep them and grow some of your own.

15. Yeah
Chuck Kalogianis is a friend of mine, and President of our West Pasco Democratic Club. Bilirakis outspent him by almost $500,000 last time and due to redistricting, Chuck didn't even know his district boundaries until 2 weeks before the election.

I'm going to call him in the morning for some pointers. I work in our DEC HQ a couple of days a week, and answer the phones and return calls. A LOT of Republicans are fed up and want a change.

14. This clown raises tons of pac money
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 11:31 PM by Bleachers7

He has raised a shit load of PAC money. You should be hammering him on this.

This is 2002

http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.asp?id=FL09&cycle=2002

Also he had 800,000 to use last time. You will have to fight smarter and get help from all over. Ask the http://www.fladems.com/ and the DNC for their list of volunteers in your CD. Then ask as many as you can use to work for you. You can swing the GE for us if you play this right.
