Gas (at at least one station) in Las Vegas up 25 CENTS IN ONE DAY
I just saw something coming home from work that nearly made me go right off the road. There is a Sinclair gas station about half a mile from my apartment complex that I pass each day going to and coming from work. Yesterday, IIRC, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded was in the $1.90's. Today I happened to look up and it was $2.24, with the higher grades each another dime.

Yeah, I know our gas prices are nothing compared to most other parts of the world. Somebody in my Everquest guild from Australia confirmed that gas costs almost $1 US per litre down there. But I gotta tell you, if this is just the beginning of things to come then I am going to seriously consider moving to a place within walking distance of my job and selling my car for whatever I can get for it. Then I'll just pay off the damn loan and be done with the whole thing. How are the people who are already in REALLY desperate straits going to be able to afford all this?

1. On my way down Jones every morning it's always cheaper than
coming home in the evening.

could be 1.91 in the am, and 1.99 or 2.04 in the pm now.

Even Huey's on Boulder Highway is no longer the cheapest anymore.

3. The station I'm talking about is a stone's throw from Nellis AFB
It's on Cheyenne just east of Lamb Blvd.

I was almost going to do a little cruising around the general area to see what the other stations were at, but I decided not to for three reasons. First, being a Sunday a lot of places may not have management around to do the price changes so tomorrow will be the time to look. Second, my car ('97 Honda Accord that is otherwise in great condition) desperately needs both axles replaced so I'm limiting my driving as much as I can for another couple weeks while I come up with the $350 for that. Third, if the price of gas is going to go stratospheric on us I may as well not drive any more than I gotta.

2. OPEC reduced collection rates late last week
"collection", not "production". Whoever came up with the term "production" hadn't any chutzpah, honesty, or balls.

With peak levels being collected, it's only going to get worse as the years go by.

Spread the word. We need to get off of oil. Pukes don't give a fuck because it'll eat into their profits, and remember: profits are good, even if it means stabbing anyone in the heart and dripping acid into the wound.

4. BOYCOTT
Perhaps we should all agree on one particular oil company to boycott and send a message to the corp. powers that be and their puppets in government that the people of this country are taking back our society. One giant oil company going belly up after years of excessive profiteering as an example to all industries would be a good thing for this country (even the remaining companies). This is the only language that the powerful understand ala the Montgomery bus boycotts et al.

6. Interesting idea, but how would you select the target ?
I guess it would have to be done at random, but this doesn't make a very strong argument. Worth thinking about, however.

Let me be the first to welcome you to DU !

7. Thamks for the hospitality...
the target should be the one most disloyal to the American worker or perhaps most embedded with the crooks at Haliburton.

8. We're paying $1.96 - 1.99 in Summerlin.
Chevron on Rampart & Lake Mead is still the cheapest.

I'm happy I'm driving my 2000 Beetle Turbo. I still get 24-28 mpg in the city...better on the highways.
