Schwarzenegger, told to F**k off by Democrat State Attorney General
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 03:28 PM by Zinfandel
"The governor can direct the Highway Patrol. He can direct the next 'Terminator 4' movie if he chooses. But he can't direct the attorney general in the way he's attempted to do," Lockyer said, adding that Schwarzenegger's written directive "was a statement designed for consumption at the Republican convention."

State Attorney General Bill Lockyer on Saturday rebuffed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's demand that he force an end to San Francisco's same-sex marriages, calling the directive political rhetoric.

By dumping the gay marriage hot potato in Lockyer's lap, Schwarzenegger has managed to ease the concerns of his conservative supporters while still staying well clear of an issue he doesn't really need to get involved in.

I loved this...all the republicans (Bush included) are tying to push, which should be a non issue on to someone else.

What possible negative could two people in love & being married have on hetero marriages...mine hasn't changed what so ever, has yours?

2. Lockyer rocks
I know nothing about him but that statement, but he rocks!

Arnie drew a line in the sand and Bill blew right by it. F.O., Arnie.

6. Go Bill!
He has fully redeemed himself for saying he would vote for Arnie. First him suing the grocery companies on anti-trust grounds, then this, he has shown his true colours along with that he had guts, unlike Daschle and the DLC. Seems like the only state in this country fighting back sometimes is here.

what's really going on in San Francisco and which will no doubt end up in the Supreme Court, where they will have to decide if it's discrimination, to not allow two adults to marry, be it the same sex or not.

12. Perhaps he said that because it was becoming obvious who would win
and he wanted to try to make things as smooth as possible. Who knows what he really did in that booth? I'll give him the benifit of the doubt, especially after reading that article!

13. I don't get it.
Didn't Schwarzenegger campaign as a pro-gay rights candidate? And can't he have the attorney general fired?

16. Nope
Attorney General out here is an elected position. He couldn't fire him if he had a good reason to.
