I have seen and read several stories of historical figures who at one time or another had to choose a single issue to strive toward above all other issues.

Thomas Jefferson had an anti-slavery paragraph in his original draft of the Declaration of Independence. He was forced to remove it in order to get the South to support separation from England. The goal was independence.

Alice Paul was a Quaker and against racism but had to capitulate to the presssures of her southern women supporters and require the black women who were fighting for suffrage segregate from the whites. Her goal was suffrage for women.

Dennis Kuchinich has a wonderful platform and would be my first choice for President if I thought he could beat Bush. I will support the democratic nominee even though he does not represent most of my views because there is a greater evil to beat there. My goal is to get the federal government out of Republican control.

Ralph Nader has many good ideas and speaks the truth when he talks about corporate thuggery and it’s stranglehold on the future of America. Many of his other points are worthy but I feel he is unrealistic about the goal here. The goal is to solidify all of our resources.

The Democratic Party is out of touch with “The Democratic Wing” but the pendulum has to complete the arc. It cannot jump to the left, it has to swing through all the positions on that arc. The goal is to create the momentum that begins that swing.

1. Great point. I think there is no greater issue confronting us than

having fair elections. If our vote doesnt count, neither does our voice.

Right now with so many DUers getting sidetracked and distracted by John Kerry, John Edwards, and Ralph Nader, all of that is irrelevant.
We arent going to be choosing our candidate, because with electronic voting, our votes are beholden to those who own the machines.

It is an illusion for us to think we have a legitimate election taking place. I believe we have to confront our election system right now. We have to forget about the candidates and focus on the problem. Otherwise, we are living in lala land.

Regretably, some principles must be sacraficed for the greater good. In time they can be implemented, for now just kicking Bush out is the goal.

....THE most vitally important issue has been sacraficed long enough.....while we sit around discussing the same eons old social problems....we're polluting ourselves out of existence...so much for the GREATER GOOD....it's been sacraficed to the point of no return! :eyes:

3. There is no greater issue than...

free and fair elections.

Initially, that would be the banning of BBV, or any process that does not include an accurate paper ballot and exit polls.

Ultimately, special interest money needs to be removed from the process, and some type of Instant Runoff so people could begin actually voting their heart and conscience.
