Girl Scout cookie boycott urged
Anti-abortion group says Scouts support Planned Parenthood

People in Waco were more than a bit taken aback after turning on a Christian radio station and hearing a community leader call for a boycott of Thin Mints and Caramel deLites.

"I encourage you to join me in abstaining from Girl Scout cookies," John Pisciotta, director of Pro-Life Waco and an associate professor of economics at Baylor University, has been saying for two weeks in public-service announcements running around the clock on KBDE/89.9.

Pisciotta then says the Waco-based Bluebonnet Council of Girl Scouts supports Planned Parenthood's annual sex education seminars.

-snip-

Pisciotta said: "I don't take pleasure in upsetting families and upsetting little girls. That is a downside of this. But it did get the conversation going."
-snip-
---------------------

the article also said the controversy made for better sales of cookies in Waco.

Pisciotta should mind his own business. women's bodies is none of his business.

he's giving Baylor a bad rep

11. Girl Power!
I love the girl scouts. My nieces are in the Girl Scouts and they are involved in all sorts of positive activities. The Girl Scouts actually respect diversity and don't force girls to be different than they are.

Not to mention that Girl Scouts are a quality product. They are excellent when frozen.

I usually don't like it when children are forced to compete with each other and sell things. They shouldn't have to do that. However, my neices' troop is doing it as a team and is learning valuable skills about safety, marketing, and teamwork.

12. I bought 10 boxes
and that was before I knew about this ridiculous boycott. My whole family has been buying lots of them; I have a 10 year old granddaughter in Girl Scouts, and she has a very big family. Wonder if there's still time to order more?

20. John Pisciotta, associate professor of economics at Baylor University
This guy needs to be boycotted.. and ostracized.

His classes need to be boycotted. Both by having students not attending and with pickets.

His picture needs to be publicized so that businesses that support the Girl Scouts will not serve him.

It IS a Southern Baptist university after all. I mean, they didn't allow dancing on campus until the late 1980's.

28. How can we send boxes of cookies to our troops???
I think it would lift their spirits, and it would sure help to trash the boycott!

If someone knowledgeable could help get this organized, I'd sure contribute to a "cookies from home" campaign. Name me one soldier in Iraq who doesn't associate Girl Scout Cookies with basic American grass-roots home-grown love!

Boycotting Girl Scout Cookies is so far over the top, I sure hope fundie mamas start opening their eyes over this one.

29. Too twisted.
Boycott the Girl Scouts because they teach little girls to be indepentdent with their bodies. Support the Boy scouts because they are anti-gay.

Another closet misogynist outs himself.
