Making Big Macs builds jobs?

A White House wonk says building a Big Mac is a manufacturing job.

Fast-food jobs should not be considered service sector work because it actually is "combining inputs to manufacture a product" - and should be reclassified as manufacturing work, Gregory Mankiw wrote in the Bush administration's annual economic report.

1. Man... there are SO many things to nail Bush with this year
But this one has to be near the top of the list. I hope someone at moveon.org is cooking up a good ad for this imbecile's comments.

How about this. A 50ish guy gets called off the assembly line and is led to a room labeled "Bush Manufacturing Job Training Program". He opens the door to be greeted by a kid and a griddle with some burgers frying behind the door.

7. If fast food service is a manufacturing job...
then it seems reasonable that those "manufacturing workers" should be represented by a union...What's good for the goose...

13. It's so wonderful
I love Gregory Mankiw. He's writing the Democratic campaign ads for them at no extra charge. First "outsourcing is good" and now mcmanufactuing! I'm telling you, we have a shot. They're not evil geniuses. They're evil idiots. Since the invasion of Iraq, everything they've done has blown up in their faces like a trick cigar.

19. this is insane
I saw this on CNN and thought good grief. isnt it like common knowledge how to put a hamburger together? Mankiw is a total moron if he thinks people are going to be flocking to fast food places to work for minimum wage and little to no beneifits. Hopefully we can use this in the upcoming election against *
