Protest 3-20, Ft. Bragg, 9-11 Families join Military Families, Veterans
Momentum is building for the Global Day of Action against War and Occupation on March 20, 2004—the one-year anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. On that day people all around the globe will take to the streets to say YES to peace and NO to pre-emptive war and occupation. In communities large and small around the United States and across the globe, we will call for an end to the occupation of Iraq and Bush's militaristic foreign policies. March 20 will be the first time the world's "other superpower" will take center stage

Fayetteville, NC - The World Still Says No to War
Saturday, March 20th 2004 ':' '
Fayetteville, NC USA

On March 20, a march and rally is planned in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Nearby is the home of Ft. Bragg, one of the largest military bases in the U.S., and home of the 18th Airborne Corp, the 1st Corps Support Command, the JFK Special Warfare School, and the Joint Special Operations Command. It is also adjacent to Pope Air Force Base, which includes the 43rd Airlift Wing, and the 23rd Fighter Group, and the 18th Support Operations Group.

We join with our sponsoring organizations - Military Families Speak Out, Bring Them Home Now coalition, Quaker House of Fayetteville, September 11th Families of Peaceful Tomorrows, and the Fayetteville Peace with Justice Coalition, and Veterans for Peace on March 20 under the banners:

WE DEMAND REAL SUPPORT FOR THE TROOPS: BRING THEM HOME NOW!
MONEY FOR JOBS AND EDUCATION, NOT WAR AND OCCUPATIONS.
THE WORLD STILL SAYS NO TO WAR!

On March 20, we call on all people of conscience to show their solidarity with military families, and vets, as well as the untold millions of others who are disproportionately affected by war and occupations, and the war at home, to join us in Fayetteville. The N.C. March 20 Planning Committee, representing over 100 peace and justice groups from across North Carolina, will join with others from South Carolina, Richmond Virginia, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia to wage peace during this historical gathering in the South!

March 20: NYC Still Says No to War!
March and Rally Against War and Occupation
Saturday, March 20 • Assemble at Noon
23rd Street & Madison Avenue, New York City
Outreach Materials • Ride Board • Housing Board

Last year, two days after the Bush Administration launched its illegal attack on Iraq, more than 300,000 people marched down Broadway in Midtown Manhattan in protest. On March 20, 2004—the one-year anniversary of the Iraq War—we will march in New York City again, as part of a global day of action against war and occupation.

10. actually there is something listed:
Charlotte, NC USA

The World Still Says No To War! Bring The Troops Home Now! Demonstration (March 20 Mobilization - Recurring)

Saturday, March 20th 2004 12:00 pm
Join us in Charlotte as part of this global day of action. More US soldiers have died than in the first four years of Vietnam. Innocent Iraqis' are dying everyday & still doing without basic necessities. Our social programs & economy are being sacrificed for war, occupation, & corporations with ties to the Republican Party. Millions will take to the streets to say YES to peace & NO to war & occupation.

11. Yes its going to be HUGE I found out
Ill be in Kalamazoo that day protesting ...
In the meantime, I talked to mfso.org people and they told me that the protest is going to be so huge they had to change the location to a larger area..
This BETTER GET SOME PRESS!
It makes me so mad when they ignore us all.
I posted this on the Kerry Forum boards, they pinned it to the front..maybe Kerry will show up! a lot of Vets go to those boards..
I also called Charlie Rangels office and a few other Senators and Congresspeople and told them about this..they were shocked..didnt even know it was happening..its gonna be HUGE Im serious..REALLY HUGE...
the media better NOT ignore it.

12. thank you
I've been having a hard time bringing attention to this, it's the third time I've posted it. I was hoping the mention of 9-11 families would help.

13. Keep up the good work ! I am also posting about the March 20th
Marches against WAR.....

Here in Washington DC, many volunteers are putting together the logistics and MANY Veterans groups will are joining in....we are all going on buses to NEW YORK city, and they just got the permits today....

in the past, I have found it helpful to explain about the "March" to people on DU, and often that results in more people....many people have never been to a march, and are leery of police or dogs, and are actually afraid because of massive news coverage claiming that protestors are 'commies, terrorists and other garbage sub-humans'...

so to encourage participation, I bring my own experience about recent protests....and do a little more insight into the effort....

--------------------
bring your friends and neighbors, join your Church group, wear a political hat or Veterans hat, make a sign, wear a costume, wear a native outfit from another country, play an instrument, sing a song, dance....it's a PARTY.....come alone or come with your friends...be CREATIVE...try out your best 'Billionaires for bush*' outfit...bring your American flag....

and you'll meet NEW friends, who value your viewpoints, you'll see interesting street theatre, meet OUR Veterans and STAND UP and walk with them, sing songs, cheer and get some exercise...it's a BIG giant community event...

29. It did help to mention the 9/11 families
Im sorry to say, but Ive noticed, as days go by, that there are some people in the anti war movement who are vehemently angry at military families for "allowing" their son or loved one to go over there. Ive talked to other military moms and dads who are vehemently anti war, and they said they get the same thing from some people on the left. So, the precarious position we are in is that many of us who marched 3 times, such as my husband and I , against the war before it started, and did everything we could to keep our adult kids from going over, are judged as incompetent parents for not laying in the doorway with rifles and holding our kids back from going.
People seem to identify with the 9/11 families, but refuse to see that there are a lot of terrified 18,19, and 20 yr old army reservists and national guard kids who were sucked into the black hole of this occupation and no matter what we did as parents, we couldnt force them not to go..I did think of breaking my stepsons leg with a ballbat, and asked him if I could, but he wouldnt let me.
Im not kidding.
In the meantime, Im glad you posted it, and if I get much more judgement I will become even more of a hermit.
(Typical judgement responses:
"he signed up for a war when he signed up"
"why didnt you stop him what kind of a mother are you?"
"shame on you you traitor you should be shot for being so unpatriotic your stepson must hate you"
and on and on and on..
Phooey.

22. Yes - it will be huge, and national
I have a hunch a lot of other cities will mobilize to emphasize these point on that day. I can't travel to Georgia, but I can travel to my state capital -- no matter how high BushCo fumbles the gas price ball. I'll walk if i have to, and so will a lot of other people.

14. Can I get some info from you G_j?
I would be coming from Chicago. I just checked airfare and it seems Raleigh/Durham is as close as I can get by air, at least affordably. According to the map, that is about 80 miles away from Fayetteville.

Any suggestions about where to stay, how to get there, logistics about where the actual protest will be, any activities planned for the day before and/or after, etc?

I'm not sure if I will come yet - I am still trying to decide if I should make the trip or go to the protest in Chicago.

18. How to get to Fayetteville from RDU
Two ways:

The easiest way is to take I-40 east to I-95, then 95 south to Fayetteville.

The shortest way is to take I-40 to US 401 (called Fayetteville Road in Raleigh and Raleigh Road in Fayetteville) then south to Fayetteville.

However, I will have to check the protest information to see where it is.

If you want to do the Fayetteville protest, let me know and I'll give you some hotels to call.
